A Japanese bird print in woodblock style: a long-legged bird with deep blue wings, a red breast and a black crest stands on a brown rock, flanked by blocks of black brush calligraphy on cream paper.
About the artwork
The bird fills the centre and looks to the right, giving the composition a clear direction against the dense writing on either side. Its feathers are layered like tiles and edged in pale gold, a woodblock habit that makes each row catch the light. A red patch crowns the head above a soft black crest. The rock and a tuft of teal grass anchor the base. The bird is an imagined species in the spirit of heron and crane pictures, not a portrait of a real one. The calligraphy is decorative and does not form readable text. Woodblock style. Portrait.
Why you'll love it
- Rich colour, calm pose. Deep blue and red give energy while the still stance keeps an office wall composed.
- Texture from a distance. The blocks of calligraphy read as pattern across the room.
- For bird lovers. A striking alternative to the usual crane print.
- Made to order. Printed after you buy, colour-managed, never warehoused.
Sizes and materials
- Paper — archival matte, rolled and unframed. Thirteen sizes in all: 8" x 12" through 30" x 40", plus A4–A1.
- Matte canvas — stretched on a wooden bar, no glare, ready to hang. 12" x 16" to 30" x 40".
- Framed canvas — solid wood floating frame in white, black, espresso or natural. 12" x 16" to 30" x 40".
- Pigment-based archival inks, rated to resist fading for decades indoors.
Styling it at home
Hang it beside a bookcase or above a desk where the calligraphy blocks echo rows of spines. Navy, terracotta and walnut pick up its palette. An espresso frame gives it a gallery feel at 18" x 24".
Shipping and care
Unframed prints ship rolled in a protective tube. Framed canvas arrives ready to hang. Keep prints out of direct sunlight to protect the colour, and dust canvas with a dry, soft cloth.
Questions people ask
What bird is it? An imagined bird inspired by herons and cranes; it is not meant to depict a specific species.
Can the calligraphy be translated? No. The writing is decorative and does not form real text.
Which room suits it? A study or living room, where its deep blue can be matched with dark wood.
Print & materials
Every design is made to order on one of three materials:
- Fine art paper — thick archival gallery-grade paper with a smooth matte finish, printed with fade-resistant pigment inks. The choice if you already own a frame.
- Matte canvas — gallery-wrapped over a solid wood stretcher, ready to hang straight out of the box. No glass, no glare.
- Framed canvas in white, black, espresso or natural wood — a slim solid-wood floating frame with the hanging hardware already fitted. Natural and espresso suit warm, timber-heavy rooms; white and black sit better in minimalist and monochrome spaces.
Sizes run from 8 x 12 inches up to large statement pieces, plus A4, A3, A2 and A1 for standard European frames. The exact sizes available for this design are listed in the Size menu above.

Materials
Three ways to print it.
Same artwork, same colour-managed printing — the material decides how it hangs and how much wall it holds.
Fine art paper
Thick archival gallery-grade paper with a smooth matte finish, printed with fade-resistant pigment inks.
- The most affordable option, and the one to pick if you already own a frame.
- Reads slightly softer than canvas.
- Ships rolled in a rigid tube.
Matte canvas
Gallery-wrapped over a solid wood stretcher, ready to hang straight out of the box.
- No glass, so no glare — good for bright rooms.
- Holds a touch more contrast than paper.
- Boxed with corner guards.
Framed canvas
A slim solid-wood floating frame with the hanging hardware already fitted, in white, black, espresso or natural wood.
- Natural and espresso suit warm, timber-heavy rooms.
- White and black sit better in minimalist and monochrome spaces.
- The usual choice for a feature wall — nothing to assemble.
