Everything here turns on the ride. A bronco throws its rider back over a gold disc, another clears a fence rail with the word cowboy set above it, and a third bucks inside the oval of a playing card. The same moment is franked onto vintage postage, printed three cents only, and pinned inside a striped cameo. The paper of the event gets equal billing: admission tickets numbered and stacked, a rope frame closed with two knots, and barbed wire strung above and below heavy type. An arch badge reads this is a high class joint, act respectable, which is the closest the range gets to a house motto. It is the loudest corner of our western wall art.

One house style

Two registers meet in this collection and the contrast is the point. The action is engraved in fine sepia line, loose enough to show dust coming off the hooves, while the words around it are cut in heavy nineteenth-century slab type, flat and unshaded. Grounds stay warm and worn, either cream linen or a distressed rust. Hang one beside the riders in cowboy wall art or the shoes and saddles of horse wall art and the set holds.
