This U.S. Capitol watercolor print shows the white dome and marble wings of the United States Capitol in Washington, D.C., seen from the green lawns of the National Mall. It is an artistic, watercolor-style interpretation of Capitol Hill from the Mall, not an exact view.
About the artwork
Fine ink lines draw the colonnaded drum, the ribbed dome and the marble wings, the elm canopy is built from layered green dots, and the reflecting pool is horizontal blue strokes. Pink, violet and blue washes with many drips run down the left edge and bottom. The palette is mostly tree and lawn green, Capitol white and sky blue, with the red sandstone of the Smithsonian Castle and pink roses on the left as accents. The Capitol stands at the center with the Statue of Freedom on top, seen from the National Mall looking east; a domed classical building sits on the left, the red towers of the Smithsonian Castle on the right, and the Capitol Reflecting Pool with an equestrian statue in between. Grass, gravel paths and American elms fill the foreground in early summer. "WASHINGTON D.C." is set in spaced navy capitals across the top.
Why you'll love it
- Statue of Freedom. The bronze figure tops the cast-iron dome at the center of the print.
- Kite on the Mall. Someone flies a stars-and-stripes kite while joggers and cyclists use the gravel paths.
- Smithsonian Castle. Its red sandstone towers add a warm contrast to the white marble and green elms.
- Made to order. Printed after you buy, colour-managed, never warehoused.

Styling it at home
The green, white and blue palette suits a home office, study or classroom, and looks sharp against navy or forest green walls. Give it to a civics teacher, a history lover, or a family after a school trip to Washington. Pair it with our Washington, D.C. watercolor print for a two-piece set.
Shipping and care
Unframed prints ship rolled in a protective tube. Framed canvas arrives ready to hang. Keep prints out of direct sunlight to protect the colour, and dust canvas with a dry, soft cloth.
Questions people ask
Is this an exact view of U.S. Capitol? No. It is an artistic interpretation of the National Mall, and some buildings and statues are simplified.
What text is printed on it? Only the city name, "WASHINGTON D.C.," set in spaced navy capitals across the top. There is no other lettering on the print.
Print & materials
Every design is made to order on one of three materials:
- Fine art paper — thick 200 gsm archival gallery-grade paper with a smooth matte finish, printed with fade-resistant pigment inks. The choice if you already own a frame.
- Matte canvas — gallery-wrapped over a solid wood stretcher, ready to hang straight out of the box. No glass, no glare.
- Framed canvas in white, black, espresso or natural wood — a slim solid-wood floating frame with the hanging hardware already fitted. Natural and espresso suit warm, timber-heavy rooms; white and black sit better in minimalist and monochrome spaces.
Sizes run from 8 x 12 inches up to large statement pieces, plus A4, A3, A2 and A1 for standard European frames. The exact sizes available for this design are listed in the Size menu above.
Paper weight, inks, frame details and care are all in our Material Guide.
