This Sleeping Bear Dunes watercolor print shows steep pale-gold sand bluffs dropping into the turquoise and deep blue water of Lake Michigan, seen from the Lake Michigan Overlook. It is an artistic, watercolor-style interpretation of the dunes, not an exact view.
About the artwork
Thin brown ink outlines the wooden overlook and the edge of the bluff. The sand is washed in beige and gold with blue-violet shadows, the lake moves from turquoise near shore to deep blue, and foam is left as white paper. The bluff runs diagonally down the right side, seen from the overlook on Pierce Stocking Scenic Drive looking north along the curving shore. Two low wooded islands sit on the horizon, and the wooden platform with dune grass and windblown sand fills the left foreground. Early-summer greens set the season, and blue and gold drips trail off the left edge. "SLEEPING BEAR DUNES" is set in spaced navy capitals across the top.
Why you'll love it
- Tiny dune climbers. Small figures on the sand slope show just how high the bluffs are.
- Lake like an ocean. Wide turquoise-to-blue water and a white sailboat give the Great Lake a seaside feel.
- Overlook crowd. A group of people takes in the view from the wooden platform among dune grass and low pines.
- Made to order. Printed after you buy, colour-managed, never warehoused.
Sizes and materials
- Paper — archival matte, rolled and unframed. Thirteen sizes in all: 8" x 12" through 30" x 40", plus A4–A1.
- Matte canvas — stretched on a wooden bar, no glare, ready to hang. 12" x 16" to 30" x 40".
- Framed canvas — solid wood floating frame in white, black, espresso or natural. 12" x 16" to 30" x 40".
- Pigment-based archival inks, rated to resist fading for decades indoors.
Styling it at home
Sand gold and lake blue suit a coastal-style bedroom, a sunny living room or a cottage entryway. It is a thoughtful gift for a family that spends summers in northern Michigan.
Shipping and care
Unframed prints ship rolled in a protective tube. Framed canvas arrives ready to hang. Keep prints out of direct sunlight to protect the colour, and dust canvas with a dry, soft cloth.
Questions people ask
Is this an exact view of Sleeping Bear Dunes? No. This is an artistic interpretation of Sleeping Bear Dunes, and the bluffs carry more shrubs and pines than the real bare sand slopes.
What text is printed on it? Only the name "SLEEPING BEAR DUNES," set in spaced navy capitals across the top. There is no other lettering on the print.
Print & materials
Every design is made to order on one of three materials:
- Fine art paper — thick 200 gsm archival gallery-grade paper with a smooth matte finish, printed with fade-resistant pigment inks. The choice if you already own a frame.
- Matte canvas — gallery-wrapped over a solid wood stretcher, ready to hang straight out of the box. No glass, no glare.
- Framed canvas in white, black, espresso or natural wood — a slim solid-wood floating frame with the hanging hardware already fitted. Natural and espresso suit warm, timber-heavy rooms; white and black sit better in minimalist and monochrome spaces.
Sizes run from 8 x 12 inches up to large statement pieces, plus A4, A3, A2 and A1 for standard European frames. The exact sizes available for this design are listed in the Size menu above.

Materials
Three ways to print it.
Same artwork, same colour-managed printing — the material decides how it hangs and how much wall it holds.
Fine art paper
Thick 200 gsm archival gallery-grade paper with a smooth matte finish, printed with fade-resistant pigment inks.
- The most affordable option, and the one to pick if you already own a frame.
- Reads slightly softer than canvas.
- Ships rolled in a rigid tube.
Matte canvas
Gallery-wrapped over a solid wood stretcher, ready to hang straight out of the box.
- No glass, so no glare — good for bright rooms.
- Holds a touch more contrast than paper.
- Boxed with corner guards.
Framed canvas
A slim solid-wood floating frame with the hanging hardware already fitted, in white, black, espresso or natural wood.
- Natural and espresso suit warm, timber-heavy rooms.
- White and black sit better in minimalist and monochrome spaces.
- The usual choice for a feature wall — nothing to assemble.
