A Saint Joseph's Oratory poster from the foot of the steps: a wide flight of pale stone stairs climbing out of the bottom of the frame, the limestone basilica standing on the shoulder of Mount Royal above it, and its great copper dome closing the composition against a hazy sky.
About the artwork
Built on the climb. The stairway takes the whole lower third, drawn tread by tread with steel handrails and long shadows that stripe across it, and each landing steps the eye further up the hill. The basilica is handled in pale grey-cream masonry with rows of arched windows, and its dome and the smaller cupolas are a soft oxidised green that repeats in the trees below. Behind and to the left, Montreal's plain runs out to a distant skyline and the river in flat washed blue. The palette is unusually muted for this set — sage, stone, dusty teal. Title in white capitals, MONTRÉAL above CANADA. Portrait, 2:3.
Why you'll love it
- The stairs are the story. Pilgrims climb these on their knees; the print puts you at the bottom of them.
- The city's highest landmark. The dome is visible from most of Montreal, and this is the view back down.
- Muted and calm. Sage and stone rather than saturated colour, so it suits a quiet room.
- A meaningful gift. One of the most visited pilgrimage sites in North America, and a personal place for many families.
Sizes and materials
- Paper — archival matte, rolled and unframed. Nine sizes from 8" x 12" to 30" x 40", plus A4-A1 for European frames.
- Matte canvas — stretched on a wooden bar, no glare, ready to hang.
- Framed canvas — solid wood floating frame in white, black, espresso or natural.
- Pigment-based archival inks, rated to resist fading for decades indoors.
Styling it at home
The muted palette makes this an easy print to live with — it works on sage, greige and warm white without adjusting anything else in the room. Natural oak or white frames keep it light. Because the composition rises from bottom to top, it hangs particularly well in a stairwell or above a tall narrow console.
Shipping and care
Unframed prints ship rolled in a protective tube. Framed canvas arrives ready to hang. Keep prints out of direct sunlight to protect the colour, and dust canvas with a dry, soft cloth.
Questions people ask
What size should I get? Above a console or desk, 12" x 18" or 16" x 24". Above a sofa, bed or mantel, go 24" x 36" or larger so the print holds the wall.
Does it come framed? Paper and matte canvas ship unframed and fit standard frames. The framed canvas option arrives in a solid wood floating frame in white, black, espresso or natural.
What is the building? Saint Joseph's Oratory of Mount Royal in Montreal, seen from the stone stairway that climbs the hillside to its entrance.
Print & materials
Every design is made to order on one of three materials:
- Fine art paper — thick archival gallery-grade paper with a smooth matte finish, printed with fade-resistant pigment inks. The choice if you already own a frame.
- Matte canvas — gallery-wrapped over a solid wood stretcher, ready to hang straight out of the box. No glass, no glare.
- Framed canvas in white, black, espresso or natural wood — a slim solid-wood floating frame with the hanging hardware already fitted. Natural and espresso suit warm, timber-heavy rooms; white and black sit better in minimalist and monochrome spaces.
Sizes run from 8 x 12 inches up to large statement pieces, plus A4, A3, A2 and A1 for standard European frames. The exact sizes available for this design are listed in the Size menu above.

Materials
Three ways to print it.
Same artwork, same colour-managed printing — the material decides how it hangs and how much wall it holds.
Fine art paper
Thick archival gallery-grade paper with a smooth matte finish, printed with fade-resistant pigment inks.
- The most affordable option, and the one to pick if you already own a frame.
- Reads slightly softer than canvas.
- Ships rolled in a rigid tube.
Matte canvas
Gallery-wrapped over a solid wood stretcher, ready to hang straight out of the box.
- No glass, so no glare — good for bright rooms.
- Holds a touch more contrast than paper.
- Boxed with corner guards.
Framed canvas
A slim solid-wood floating frame with the hanging hardware already fitted, in white, black, espresso or natural wood.
- Natural and espresso suit warm, timber-heavy rooms.
- White and black sit better in minimalist and monochrome spaces.
- The usual choice for a feature wall — nothing to assemble.
