A Royal Ontario Museum poster from the sidewalk on Bloor Street: the angular glass and aluminium prisms of the Crystal leaning out over the pavement, the museum's original sandstone wall holding the left edge, and a row of young street trees running away down the block.
About the artwork
All about the collision of two buildings. The Crystal is drawn as a set of tilted planes — dark blue-grey glazing, pale brushed metal, hard seams between panels — and it is deliberately cropped by the top of the frame so it reads as overhanging rather than contained. Against it the old sandstone wing is warm ochre with a carved arch and a stone cornice. Below, the sidewalk runs in flat cream with long tree shadows, and a few small figures sit on benches at the base of the glass. The sky is a pale even blue with no cloud. Title in white capitals, TORONTO above CANADA. Portrait, 2:3.
Why you'll love it
- The most argued-about building in Toronto. Whatever you think of the Crystal, it makes a striking print.
- Sandstone against glass. Warm ochre on the left, cold grey on the right — the whole design tension in one frame.
- Angles that hold a wall. Diagonal planes give it energy without any strong colour at all.
- Museum and university people. A print for anyone who spent time around Queen's Park and Bloor.
Sizes and materials
- Paper — archival matte, rolled and unframed. Nine sizes from 8" x 12" to 30" x 40", plus A4-A1 for European frames.
- Matte canvas — stretched on a wooden bar, no glare, ready to hang.
- Framed canvas — solid wood floating frame in white, black, espresso or natural.
- Pigment-based archival inks, rated to resist fading for decades indoors.
Styling it at home
This is the most neutral print in the Canada set — grey, ochre and pale blue — so it slots into almost any room without a colour argument. It looks best on white or warm grey with a thin black frame, which suits the hard geometry. A strong choice for a home office or a hallway, and an easy one to hang beside photographs in black and white.
Shipping and care
Unframed prints ship rolled in a protective tube. Framed canvas arrives ready to hang. Keep prints out of direct sunlight to protect the colour, and dust canvas with a dry, soft cloth.
Questions people ask
What size should I get? Above a console or desk, 12" x 18" or 16" x 24". Above a sofa, bed or mantel, go 24" x 36" or larger so the print holds the wall.
Does it come framed? Paper and matte canvas ship unframed and fit standard frames. The framed canvas option arrives in a solid wood floating frame in white, black, espresso or natural.
What is the angular glass part? The Michael Lee-Chin Crystal, the glass and aluminium addition to the Royal Ontario Museum on Bloor Street in Toronto.
Print & materials
Every design is made to order on one of three materials:
- Fine art paper — thick archival gallery-grade paper with a smooth matte finish, printed with fade-resistant pigment inks. The choice if you already own a frame.
- Matte canvas — gallery-wrapped over a solid wood stretcher, ready to hang straight out of the box. No glass, no glare.
- Framed canvas in white, black, espresso or natural wood — a slim solid-wood floating frame with the hanging hardware already fitted. Natural and espresso suit warm, timber-heavy rooms; white and black sit better in minimalist and monochrome spaces.
Sizes run from 8 x 12 inches up to large statement pieces, plus A4, A3, A2 and A1 for standard European frames. The exact sizes available for this design are listed in the Size menu above.

Materials
Three ways to print it.
Same artwork, same colour-managed printing — the material decides how it hangs and how much wall it holds.
Fine art paper
Thick archival gallery-grade paper with a smooth matte finish, printed with fade-resistant pigment inks.
- The most affordable option, and the one to pick if you already own a frame.
- Reads slightly softer than canvas.
- Ships rolled in a rigid tube.
Matte canvas
Gallery-wrapped over a solid wood stretcher, ready to hang straight out of the box.
- No glass, so no glare — good for bright rooms.
- Holds a touch more contrast than paper.
- Boxed with corner guards.
Framed canvas
A slim solid-wood floating frame with the hanging hardware already fitted, in white, black, espresso or natural wood.
- Natural and espresso suit warm, timber-heavy rooms.
- White and black sit better in minimalist and monochrome spaces.
- The usual choice for a feature wall — nothing to assemble.
