A Petit Champlain poster from the bottom of the lane: worn stone walls closing in on both sides, a cobbled street bending uphill between them, painted shopfronts in blue and red, and baskets of magenta petunias hanging off every bracket.
About the artwork
Light is the subject as much as the street is. The lane is cut diagonally by hard sunlight and deep blue-violet shade, so the cobbles read as two colours rather than one, and the stone walls shift from warm honey where the sun lands to cool grey in the recess. Everything else is detail: mullioned windows, a wrought-iron lantern, hand-painted signboards, a run of stone steps rising to the right, and flower baskets in magenta and coral repeating up the length of the street. Above the roofline a corner of blue sky and a stone tower close the view. Title in white capitals, QUÉBEC above CANADA. Portrait, 2:3.
Why you'll love it
- The oldest shopping street in North America. Rue du Petit-Champlain, drawn at the hour it looks best.
- Warm stone and cool shadow. The split light is what gives the print depth in a narrow frame.
- Magenta as an accent. Small, repeated, and the only saturated colour — it reads as flowers rather than as decoration.
- European feel, Canadian address. A good print for anyone who loves old-town lanes and has been to this one.
Sizes and materials
- Paper — archival matte, rolled and unframed. Nine sizes from 8" x 12" to 30" x 40", plus A4-A1 for European frames.
- Matte canvas — stretched on a wooden bar, no glare, ready to hang.
- Framed canvas — solid wood floating frame in white, black, espresso or natural.
- Pigment-based archival inks, rated to resist fading for decades indoors.
Styling it at home
Because the composition is a narrow corridor, it suits narrow places: a hallway, the wall beside a staircase, the gap between two doors. Warm white and clay walls pick up the honey stone; grey kills it. Walnut or black frames match the ironwork. It also pairs naturally with the other Old Quebec print of the square, since the stone and the light are the same.
Shipping and care
Unframed prints ship rolled in a protective tube. Framed canvas arrives ready to hang. Keep prints out of direct sunlight to protect the colour, and dust canvas with a dry, soft cloth.
Questions people ask
What size should I get? Above a console or desk, 12" x 18" or 16" x 24". Above a sofa, bed or mantel, go 24" x 36" or larger so the print holds the wall.
Does it come framed? Paper and matte canvas ship unframed and fit standard frames. The framed canvas option arrives in a solid wood floating frame in white, black, espresso or natural.
Where is this street? Rue du Petit-Champlain in the Lower Town of Old Quebec, below the cliff of Cap Diamant.
Print & materials
Every design is made to order on one of three materials:
- Fine art paper — thick archival gallery-grade paper with a smooth matte finish, printed with fade-resistant pigment inks. The choice if you already own a frame.
- Matte canvas — gallery-wrapped over a solid wood stretcher, ready to hang straight out of the box. No glass, no glare.
- Framed canvas in white, black, espresso or natural wood — a slim solid-wood floating frame with the hanging hardware already fitted. Natural and espresso suit warm, timber-heavy rooms; white and black sit better in minimalist and monochrome spaces.
Sizes run from 8 x 12 inches up to large statement pieces, plus A4, A3, A2 and A1 for standard European frames. The exact sizes available for this design are listed in the Size menu above.

Materials
Three ways to print it.
Same artwork, same colour-managed printing — the material decides how it hangs and how much wall it holds.
Fine art paper
Thick archival gallery-grade paper with a smooth matte finish, printed with fade-resistant pigment inks.
- The most affordable option, and the one to pick if you already own a frame.
- Reads slightly softer than canvas.
- Ships rolled in a rigid tube.
Matte canvas
Gallery-wrapped over a solid wood stretcher, ready to hang straight out of the box.
- No glass, so no glare — good for bright rooms.
- Holds a touch more contrast than paper.
- Boxed with corner guards.
Framed canvas
A slim solid-wood floating frame with the hanging hardware already fitted, in white, black, espresso or natural wood.
- Natural and espresso suit warm, timber-heavy rooms.
- White and black sit better in minimalist and monochrome spaces.
- The usual choice for a feature wall — nothing to assemble.
