A Notre-Dame Basilica poster from the far side of Place d'Armes: the twin Gothic Revival towers rising above the square, the pale stone facade with its three portals below them, rows of young trees on both sides, and a wide paved plaza running back toward the church with people crossing it.
About the artwork
Symmetry, held slightly off centre. The basilica sits right of the middle so the square opens beside it rather than in front of it, and the buildings that frame the plaza — a dark stone office block to the left, a classical bank facade to the right — lean inward to enclose the view. The stone is drawn in warm bone and pale grey with the tracery, buttresses and pinnacles picked out, and the sky behind is one flat mid-blue. On the ground, long tree shadows fall in cool violet across cream paving, and small figures give the towers their scale. Title in white capitals, MONTRÉAL above CANADA. Portrait, 2:3.
Why you'll love it
- The square, not just the church. Place d'Armes with its trees and shadows is half of why this view works.
- Stone drawn with patience. Portals, tracery and pinnacles are individually rendered rather than suggested.
- Cool shadows on warm paving. Violet shade against cream stone gives the print its depth.
- Weddings and concerts. A building many people have been inside for a specific occasion.
Sizes and materials
- Paper — archival matte, rolled and unframed. Nine sizes from 8" x 12" to 30" x 40", plus A4-A1 for European frames.
- Matte canvas — stretched on a wooden bar, no glare, ready to hang.
- Framed canvas — solid wood floating frame in white, black, espresso or natural.
- Pigment-based archival inks, rated to resist fading for decades indoors.
Styling it at home
Bone stone and mid blue keep this one calm, so it suits a formal room — a dining room, a study, a hallway with mouldings. Warm white and pale grey walls both work; espresso frames suit the stonework. It is the natural partner to the Mount Royal print of the same city: one from above, one from street level.
Shipping and care
Unframed prints ship rolled in a protective tube. Framed canvas arrives ready to hang. Keep prints out of direct sunlight to protect the colour, and dust canvas with a dry, soft cloth.
Questions people ask
What size should I get? Above a console or desk, 12" x 18" or 16" x 24". Above a sofa, bed or mantel, go 24" x 36" or larger so the print holds the wall.
Does it come framed? Paper and matte canvas ship unframed and fit standard frames. The framed canvas option arrives in a solid wood floating frame in white, black, espresso or natural.
Where is the view from? Place d'Armes in Old Montreal, looking across the square at the west front of the Notre-Dame Basilica.
Print & materials
Every design is made to order on one of three materials:
- Fine art paper — thick archival gallery-grade paper with a smooth matte finish, printed with fade-resistant pigment inks. The choice if you already own a frame.
- Matte canvas — gallery-wrapped over a solid wood stretcher, ready to hang straight out of the box. No glass, no glare.
- Framed canvas in white, black, espresso or natural wood — a slim solid-wood floating frame with the hanging hardware already fitted. Natural and espresso suit warm, timber-heavy rooms; white and black sit better in minimalist and monochrome spaces.
Sizes run from 8 x 12 inches up to large statement pieces, plus A4, A3, A2 and A1 for standard European frames. The exact sizes available for this design are listed in the Size menu above.

Materials
Three ways to print it.
Same artwork, same colour-managed printing — the material decides how it hangs and how much wall it holds.
Fine art paper
Thick archival gallery-grade paper with a smooth matte finish, printed with fade-resistant pigment inks.
- The most affordable option, and the one to pick if you already own a frame.
- Reads slightly softer than canvas.
- Ships rolled in a rigid tube.
Matte canvas
Gallery-wrapped over a solid wood stretcher, ready to hang straight out of the box.
- No glass, so no glare — good for bright rooms.
- Holds a touch more contrast than paper.
- Boxed with corner guards.
Framed canvas
A slim solid-wood floating frame with the hanging hardware already fitted, in white, black, espresso or natural wood.
- Natural and espresso suit warm, timber-heavy rooms.
- White and black sit better in minimalist and monochrome spaces.
- The usual choice for a feature wall — nothing to assemble.
