This North Avenue Beach Chicago watercolor print shows a summer beach on Lake Michigan, with the black John Hancock Center and the Gold Coast high-rises curving along the shore. It is an artistic, watercolor-style interpretation of the beach, not an exact view.
About the artwork
Fine ink lines draw the X-bracing of the Hancock tower, the volleyball nets and the high-rises, and the lake is layered turquoise strokes with white paper left for waves. Green and gold washes with long drips spill from the lower left corner into a white paper border. The palette is Lake Michigan turquoise, sand beige, tree green and the dark blue-black of the Hancock, with blue umbrellas and white sails as accents. The John Hancock Center rises on the left, seen from North Avenue Beach looking south along the shore, with the Gold Coast towers curving along Lake Shore Drive and a small beach house with a little tower in the middle ground. Pale sand with volleyball nets and sunbathers fills the foreground, sailboats dot the lake on the right, and the downtown skyline fades behind on a warm early-summer day. "CHICAGO" is set in spaced navy capitals across the top.
Why you'll love it
- Beach volleyball. Players at the nets and sunbathers under blue umbrellas fill the sand.
- Lakefront Trail riders. Cyclists roll along the trail between the beach and the city.
- City meets lake. Turquoise water on one side and the Gold Coast high-rises on the other show the city's summer shoreline.
- Made to order. Printed after you buy, colour-managed, never warehoused.
Sizes and materials
- Paper — archival matte, rolled and unframed. Thirteen sizes in all: 8" x 12" through 30" x 40", plus A4–A1.
- Matte canvas — stretched on a wooden bar, no glare, ready to hang. 12" x 16" to 30" x 40".
- Framed canvas — solid wood floating frame in white, black, espresso or natural. 12" x 16" to 30" x 40".
- Pigment-based archival inks, rated to resist fading for decades indoors.
Styling it at home
The turquoise, sand and green tones bring a summery feel to a living room, bathroom or lake cottage with white and natural textures. It is a fun gift for someone who spent summers on the Chicago lakefront, or for a beach volleyball player. Pair it with our Chicago watercolor print for a two-piece set.
Shipping and care
Unframed prints ship rolled in a protective tube. Framed canvas arrives ready to hang. Keep prints out of direct sunlight to protect the colour, and dust canvas with a dry, soft cloth.
Questions people ask
Is this an exact view of North Avenue Beach Chicago? No. It is an artistic interpretation of the shoreline, and some details, like the beach house, are simplified.
What text is printed on it? Only the city name, "CHICAGO," set in spaced navy capitals across the top. There is no other lettering on the print.
Print & materials
Every design is made to order on one of three materials:
- Fine art paper — thick 200 gsm archival gallery-grade paper with a smooth matte finish, printed with fade-resistant pigment inks. The choice if you already own a frame.
- Matte canvas — gallery-wrapped over a solid wood stretcher, ready to hang straight out of the box. No glass, no glare.
- Framed canvas in white, black, espresso or natural wood — a slim solid-wood floating frame with the hanging hardware already fitted. Natural and espresso suit warm, timber-heavy rooms; white and black sit better in minimalist and monochrome spaces.
Sizes run from 8 x 12 inches up to large statement pieces, plus A4, A3, A2 and A1 for standard European frames. The exact sizes available for this design are listed in the Size menu above.
Paper weight, inks, frame details and care are all in our Material Guide.

Matte canvas
Gallery-wrapped over a solid wood stretcher, ready to hang straight out of the box.

- Boxed with corner guards.
Framed canvas
A slim solid-wood floating frame with the hanging hardware already fitted, in white, black, espresso or natural wood.
- Natural and espresso suit warm, timber-heavy rooms.
