This McAfee Knob watercolor print shows the flat sandstone ledge of McAfee Knob jutting out over the patchwork farms of the Catawba Valley. It is an artistic, watercolor-style interpretation of the Virginia overlook, not an exact view.
About the artwork
Thin transparent washes fade the distant ridges into soft blue-violet layers. Fine brown-grey ink traces the grain of the sandstone slabs. The palette is summer green, rock grey and hazy blue, with soft pink from blooming mountain laurel. The ledge projects into the air in the upper left, seen from the rocky slope beside it, looking west. Checkerboard fields fill the valley floor, the long rock line of Tinker Cliffs runs along the right, and layered Appalachian ridges fade into haze behind. "MCAFEE KNOB" is set in spaced navy capitals across the top.
Why you'll love it
- Hiker on the edge. A lone hiker sits at the lip of the ledge, looking out over the valley.
- Layers of blue haze. Ridge after ridge recedes into pale blue for a deep sense of space.
- Laurel in bloom. Pink mountain laurel and lichen-covered slabs fill the foreground.
- Made to order. Printed after you buy, colour-managed, never warehoused.
Sizes and materials
- Paper — archival matte, rolled and unframed. Thirteen sizes in all: 8" x 12" through 30" x 40", plus A4–A1.
- Matte canvas — stretched on a wooden bar, no glare, ready to hang. 12" x 16" to 30" x 40".
- Framed canvas — solid wood floating frame in white, black, espresso or natural. 12" x 16" to 30" x 40".
- Pigment-based archival inks, rated to resist fading for decades indoors.
Styling it at home
Soft greens and misty blues fit a calm bedroom, a study or a living room with natural wood and linen. Give it to an Appalachian Trail thru-hiker, a Roanoke Valley local or a friend who made the climb to the Knob.
Shipping and care
Unframed prints ship rolled in a protective tube. Framed canvas arrives ready to hang. Keep prints out of direct sunlight to protect the colour, and dust canvas with a dry, soft cloth.
Questions people ask
Is this an exact view of McAfee Knob? No. It is an artistic, stylized interpretation of McAfee Knob. The viewpoint and some plant details are simplified or rearranged to suit the composition.
What text is printed on it? Only the name "MCAFEE KNOB," set in spaced navy capitals across the top. There is no other lettering on the print.
Print & materials
Every design is made to order on one of three materials:
- Fine art paper — thick 200 gsm archival gallery-grade paper with a smooth matte finish, printed with fade-resistant pigment inks. The choice if you already own a frame.
- Matte canvas — gallery-wrapped over a solid wood stretcher, ready to hang straight out of the box. No glass, no glare.
- Framed canvas in white, black, espresso or natural wood — a slim solid-wood floating frame with the hanging hardware already fitted. Natural and espresso suit warm, timber-heavy rooms; white and black sit better in minimalist and monochrome spaces.
Sizes run from 8 x 12 inches up to large statement pieces, plus A4, A3, A2 and A1 for standard European frames. The exact sizes available for this design are listed in the Size menu above.

Materials
Three ways to print it.
Same artwork, same colour-managed printing — the material decides how it hangs and how much wall it holds.
Fine art paper
Thick 200 gsm archival gallery-grade paper with a smooth matte finish, printed with fade-resistant pigment inks.
- The most affordable option, and the one to pick if you already own a frame.
- Reads slightly softer than canvas.
- Ships rolled in a rigid tube.
Matte canvas
Gallery-wrapped over a solid wood stretcher, ready to hang straight out of the box.
- No glass, so no glare — good for bright rooms.
- Holds a touch more contrast than paper.
- Boxed with corner guards.
Framed canvas
A slim solid-wood floating frame with the hanging hardware already fitted, in white, black, espresso or natural wood.
- Natural and espresso suit warm, timber-heavy rooms.
- White and black sit better in minimalist and monochrome spaces.
- The usual choice for a feature wall — nothing to assemble.
