A Gastown steam clock poster from the middle of Water Street: the brass and glass clock standing on its brick island, an ornate cast-iron lamppost with white globes filling the near left, and the red brick heritage blocks running away down the right side of the street.
About the artwork
Two objects, one street, and a lot of brick. The lamppost is drawn very large and close so its five globe lamps break the top left corner of the frame, and the steam clock sits smaller in the middle distance, gilded, with its white dial and glass case picked out against the shadowed shopfronts. Everything else is warm masonry — rust and terracotta brick, stone lintels, dark green awnings, hanging planters along the upper floors — laid over herringbone brick paving that carries the eye down the block. The sky is a soft mid-blue with one small white cloud. Title in white capitals, VANCOUVER above CANADA. Portrait, 2:3.
Why you'll love it
- Vancouver's most photographed object. The steam clock, drawn properly rather than as a distant silhouette.
- Brick warmth. The only warm-toned Vancouver print in the set — useful if the harbour teal is too cool for your room.
- Foreground and distance in one frame. The huge near lamppost gives the street real depth.
- Old town character. Cast iron, brick and gilding — it suits a room with antiques better than a glass-tower skyline would.
Sizes and materials
- Paper — archival matte, rolled and unframed. Nine sizes from 8" x 12" to 30" x 40", plus A4-A1 for European frames.
- Matte canvas — stretched on a wooden bar, no glare, ready to hang.
- Framed canvas — solid wood floating frame in white, black, espresso or natural.
- Pigment-based archival inks, rated to resist fading for decades indoors.
Styling it at home
Brick red and brass want warm neighbours: cream, camel, clay, and wood furniture. It is the right print for an entryway or a bar corner, and it holds up in a room with exposed brick of its own. Espresso and black frames both suit the ironwork. At 16" x 24" the clock face still reads clearly, so this one does not need to be large.
Shipping and care
Unframed prints ship rolled in a protective tube. Framed canvas arrives ready to hang. Keep prints out of direct sunlight to protect the colour, and dust canvas with a dry, soft cloth.
Questions people ask
What size should I get? Above a console or desk, 12" x 18" or 16" x 24". Above a sofa, bed or mantel, go 24" x 36" or larger so the print holds the wall.
Does it come framed? Paper and matte canvas ship unframed and fit standard frames. The framed canvas option arrives in a solid wood floating frame in white, black, espresso or natural.
What is the gold clock? The Gastown steam clock, on the corner of Water and Cambie Street in the old quarter of Vancouver, which whistles steam on the hour.
Print & materials
Every design is made to order on one of three materials:
- Fine art paper — thick archival gallery-grade paper with a smooth matte finish, printed with fade-resistant pigment inks. The choice if you already own a frame.
- Matte canvas — gallery-wrapped over a solid wood stretcher, ready to hang straight out of the box. No glass, no glare.
- Framed canvas in white, black, espresso or natural wood — a slim solid-wood floating frame with the hanging hardware already fitted. Natural and espresso suit warm, timber-heavy rooms; white and black sit better in minimalist and monochrome spaces.
Sizes run from 8 x 12 inches up to large statement pieces, plus A4, A3, A2 and A1 for standard European frames. The exact sizes available for this design are listed in the Size menu above.

Materials
Three ways to print it.
Same artwork, same colour-managed printing — the material decides how it hangs and how much wall it holds.
Fine art paper
Thick archival gallery-grade paper with a smooth matte finish, printed with fade-resistant pigment inks.
- The most affordable option, and the one to pick if you already own a frame.
- Reads slightly softer than canvas.
- Ships rolled in a rigid tube.
Matte canvas
Gallery-wrapped over a solid wood stretcher, ready to hang straight out of the box.
- No glass, so no glare — good for bright rooms.
- Holds a touch more contrast than paper.
- Boxed with corner guards.
Framed canvas
A slim solid-wood floating frame with the hanging hardware already fitted, in white, black, espresso or natural wood.
- Natural and espresso suit warm, timber-heavy rooms.
- White and black sit better in minimalist and monochrome spaces.
- The usual choice for a feature wall — nothing to assemble.
