A Chateau Laurier poster seen from downstream: the limestone hotel with its green copper turrets standing along the top of a wooded bluff, a bare rock face dropping away in the left foreground, and the Ottawa River running white and fast across the whole bottom half of the frame.
About the artwork
Two thirds water. The river is drawn as a field of long curling whitecaps in cream over pale teal, each one shaded so the current reads as moving toward the viewer, and the noise of it is what makes the hotel above look so still. The chateau itself is handled in warm buff stone with steep verdigris roofs, dormers and finials picked out one by one, and the cliff below it is faceted grey rock with dark conifers gripping the ledges. Beyond, a low wooded shore in flat green. Title in white capitals, OTTAWA above CANADA. Portrait, 2:3.
Why you'll love it
- The hotel from the water. Not the Wellington Street facade everyone photographs, but the long river elevation.
- Water with real energy. The rapids fill the lower half and give the print movement that most architectural posters lack.
- Copper green and buff stone. The same palette as the Quebec chateau prints, so the two hang together naturally.
- Anniversaries and stays. A grand railway hotel that a lot of people associate with a particular weekend.
Sizes and materials
- Paper — archival matte, rolled and unframed. Nine sizes from 8" x 12" to 30" x 40", plus A4-A1 for European frames.
- Matte canvas — stretched on a wooden bar, no glare, ready to hang.
- Framed canvas — solid wood floating frame in white, black, espresso or natural.
- Pigment-based archival inks, rated to resist fading for decades indoors.
Styling it at home
Pale teal and buff make this an easy print for a light room — cream, bone or the softest grey. Natural oak frames pick up the stone; espresso brings out the copper roofs. It is a good bedroom print, since the moving water sits low in the frame and the top half stays calm above a headboard.
Shipping and care
Unframed prints ship rolled in a protective tube. Framed canvas arrives ready to hang. Keep prints out of direct sunlight to protect the colour, and dust canvas with a dry, soft cloth.
Questions people ask
What size should I get? Above a console or desk, 12" x 18" or 16" x 24". Above a sofa, bed or mantel, go 24" x 36" or larger so the print holds the wall.
Does it come framed? Paper and matte canvas ship unframed and fit standard frames. The framed canvas option arrives in a solid wood floating frame in white, black, espresso or natural.
Which hotel is this? The Fairmont Château Laurier in Ottawa, the chateau-style railway hotel beside the Rideau Canal, seen from the Ottawa River side.
Print & materials
Every design is made to order on one of three materials:
- Fine art paper — thick archival gallery-grade paper with a smooth matte finish, printed with fade-resistant pigment inks. The choice if you already own a frame.
- Matte canvas — gallery-wrapped over a solid wood stretcher, ready to hang straight out of the box. No glass, no glare.
- Framed canvas in white, black, espresso or natural wood — a slim solid-wood floating frame with the hanging hardware already fitted. Natural and espresso suit warm, timber-heavy rooms; white and black sit better in minimalist and monochrome spaces.
Sizes run from 8 x 12 inches up to large statement pieces, plus A4, A3, A2 and A1 for standard European frames. The exact sizes available for this design are listed in the Size menu above.

Materials
Three ways to print it.
Same artwork, same colour-managed printing — the material decides how it hangs and how much wall it holds.
Fine art paper
Thick archival gallery-grade paper with a smooth matte finish, printed with fade-resistant pigment inks.
- The most affordable option, and the one to pick if you already own a frame.
- Reads slightly softer than canvas.
- Ships rolled in a rigid tube.
Matte canvas
Gallery-wrapped over a solid wood stretcher, ready to hang straight out of the box.
- No glass, so no glare — good for bright rooms.
- Holds a touch more contrast than paper.
- Boxed with corner guards.
Framed canvas
A slim solid-wood floating frame with the hanging hardware already fitted, in white, black, espresso or natural wood.
- Natural and espresso suit warm, timber-heavy rooms.
- White and black sit better in minimalist and monochrome spaces.
- The usual choice for a feature wall — nothing to assemble.
