This St. Croix watercolor print shows the yellow walls of Fort Christiansvaern on the Christiansted harbor, seen from the waterfront boardwalk. It is an artistic, watercolor-style interpretation of the town, not an exact view.
About the artwork
The fort's ochre walls are built in transparent layers, with fine ink outlining the walls and black cannon. The turquoise water keeps white paper for reflections, the boardwalk is drawn with fine parallel lines, and the left edge and bottom melt into pink, blue and yellow with a long drip at the lower left. Ochre and turquoise lead the palette, with palm and hill greens, red roof tiles and coral bougainvillea as accents. Looking east, the fort sits center left, the white Steeple Building and cream and pink Danish-era buildings rise behind it, and palm-covered Protestant Cay sits on the right. A leaning palm, a street lamp and moored sailboats line the boardwalk in the foreground, under trade-wind clouds. "ST. CROIX" is set in spaced navy capitals across the top.
Why you'll love it
- Pelican on a piling. A pelican rests on a wooden post beside the boardwalk.
- Ferry to the cay. A white ferry crosses the channel toward Protestant Cay.
- Danish colonial color. Yellow fort walls, red roofs and cream facades give the scene a warm glow.
- Made to order. Printed after you buy, colour-managed, never warehoused.
Sizes and materials
- Paper — archival matte, rolled and unframed. Thirteen sizes in all: 8" x 12" through 30" x 40", plus A4–A1.
- Matte canvas — stretched on a wooden bar, no glare, ready to hang. 12" x 16" to 30" x 40".
- Framed canvas — solid wood floating frame in white, black, espresso or natural. 12" x 16" to 30" x 40".
- Pigment-based archival inks, rated to resist fading for decades indoors.
Styling it at home
Golden ochre and turquoise work well in an entryway, a home office or a living room with warm wood. A good gift for someone who lived on St. Croix or a sailor who anchored in Christiansted.
Shipping and care
Unframed prints ship rolled in a protective tube. Framed canvas arrives ready to hang. Keep prints out of direct sunlight to protect the colour, and dust canvas with a dry, soft cloth.
Questions people ask
Is this an exact view of St. Croix? No. It is an artistic interpretation of Christiansted in a watercolor style. The viewpoint is a little higher than the boardwalk, and some details are simplified.
What text is printed on it? Only the name "ST. CROIX," set in spaced navy capitals across the top. There is no other lettering on the print.
Print & materials
Every design is made to order on one of three materials:
- Fine art paper — thick 200 gsm archival gallery-grade paper with a smooth matte finish, printed with fade-resistant pigment inks. The choice if you already own a frame.
- Matte canvas — gallery-wrapped over a solid wood stretcher, ready to hang straight out of the box. No glass, no glare.
- Framed canvas in white, black, espresso or natural wood — a slim solid-wood floating frame with the hanging hardware already fitted. Natural and espresso suit warm, timber-heavy rooms; white and black sit better in minimalist and monochrome spaces.
Sizes run from 8 x 12 inches up to large statement pieces, plus A4, A3, A2 and A1 for standard European frames. The exact sizes available for this design are listed in the Size menu above.
Paper weight, inks, frame details and care are all in our Material Guide.

Materials
Three ways to print it.
Same artwork, same colour-managed printing — the material decides how it hangs and how much wall it holds.
Fine art paper
Thick 200 gsm archival gallery-grade paper with a smooth matte finish, printed with fade-resistant pigment inks.
- The most affordable option, and the one to pick if you already own a frame.
- Reads slightly softer than canvas.
- Ships rolled in a rigid tube.
Matte canvas
Gallery-wrapped over a solid wood stretcher, ready to hang straight out of the box.
- No glass, so no glare — good for bright rooms.
- Holds a touch more contrast than paper.
- Boxed with corner guards.
Framed canvas
A slim solid-wood floating frame with the hanging hardware already fitted, in white, black, espresso or natural wood.
- Natural and espresso suit warm, timber-heavy rooms.
- White and black sit better in minimalist and monochrome spaces.
- The usual choice for a feature wall — nothing to assemble.
