A Wood Buffalo National Park poster at the edge of the delta: a wood bison standing side-on in tall gold grass, sedge meadows and shallow channels spreading out behind it, and the boreal treeline closing the horizon.
About the artwork
A portrait of an animal in its own country. The bison is drawn large and in profile, close enough that the shaggy cape, the squared beard and the forward-set horns of the wood subspecies are all legible — heavier and darker than the plains bison of the prairie sheets. Around it the grass is painted in long individual blades in straw and olive, and behind, the delta opens into a pattern of pale sedge islands and blue-green water channels that runs almost to the top of the image. The sky is a narrow band with a line of small cumulus.
The layout is the Canadian park service sheet used across this series, with the type in dark brown: cream border, small dark capitals along the top reading ALBERTA · 59.38° N, 112.98° W · EST 1922, and WOOD BUFFALO at the foot over NATIONAL PARK, with the Parks Canada wordmark and beaver roundel. Portrait, 2:3.
Why you'll love it
- Canada's largest national park. Bigger than Switzerland, and drawn here as the delta wetland it mostly is.
- The wood bison, not the plains bison. A different subspecies, and the print shows the difference.
- The last wild whooping crane nesting ground. The only one left on earth, inside this park.
- Gold and blue-green. Warm grass over cool water — an easy pairing for a room with wood in it.
Sizes and materials
- Paper — archival matte, rolled and unframed. Nine sizes from 8" x 12" to 30" x 40", plus A4-A1 for European frames.
- Matte canvas — stretched on a wooden bar, no glare, ready to hang.
- Framed canvas — solid wood floating frame in white, black, espresso or natural.
- Pigment-based archival inks, rated to resist fading for decades indoors.
Styling it at home
Gold grass and dark brown make this a natural fit for leather, wool and warm wood, and it suits camel, clay and cream walls. Espresso frames match the bison. If you are hanging more than one animal print, this is the one to put beside Elk Island or Grasslands — three bison, three different landscapes, same typographic foot.
Shipping and care
Unframed prints ship rolled in a protective tube. Framed canvas arrives ready to hang. Keep prints out of direct sunlight to protect the colour, and dust canvas with a dry, soft cloth.
Questions people ask
What size should I get? Above a console or desk, 12" x 18" or 16" x 24". Above a sofa, bed or mantel, go 24" x 36" or larger so the print holds the wall.
Does it come framed? Paper and matte canvas ship unframed and fit standard frames. The framed canvas option arrives in a solid wood floating frame in white, black, espresso or natural.
How is a wood bison different? It is larger and darker than the plains bison, with a taller, squarer shoulder hump. The banner along the top gives the park's coordinates and its founding year, 1922.
Print & materials
Every design is made to order on one of three materials:
- Fine art paper — thick archival gallery-grade paper with a smooth matte finish, printed with fade-resistant pigment inks. The choice if you already own a frame.
- Matte canvas — gallery-wrapped over a solid wood stretcher, ready to hang straight out of the box. No glass, no glare.
- Framed canvas in white, black, espresso or natural wood — a slim solid-wood floating frame with the hanging hardware already fitted. Natural and espresso suit warm, timber-heavy rooms; white and black sit better in minimalist and monochrome spaces.
Sizes run from 8 x 12 inches up to large statement pieces, plus A4, A3, A2 and A1 for standard European frames. The exact sizes available for this design are listed in the Size menu above.

Materials
Three ways to print it.
Same artwork, same colour-managed printing — the material decides how it hangs and how much wall it holds.
Fine art paper
Thick archival gallery-grade paper with a smooth matte finish, printed with fade-resistant pigment inks.
- The most affordable option, and the one to pick if you already own a frame.
- Reads slightly softer than canvas.
- Ships rolled in a rigid tube.
Matte canvas
Gallery-wrapped over a solid wood stretcher, ready to hang straight out of the box.
- No glass, so no glare — good for bright rooms.
- Holds a touch more contrast than paper.
- Boxed with corner guards.
Framed canvas
A slim solid-wood floating frame with the hanging hardware already fitted, in white, black, espresso or natural wood.
- Natural and espresso suit warm, timber-heavy rooms.
- White and black sit better in minimalist and monochrome spaces.
- The usual choice for a feature wall — nothing to assemble.
