A Wapusk National Park poster on the winter tundra: a polar bear and her cub walking across drifted snow in the foreground, a thin line of stunted spruce along the ridge behind them, and the frozen edge of Hudson Bay running white to the horizon.
About the artwork
Almost a monochrome, and it works because of it. The whole sheet is built from white, ice blue and pale grey, with the snow drifts modelled in long sculpted curves so the ground reads as wind-carved rather than flat. The two bears are drawn in the same near-white as the snow and are separated from it only by their shadows and the cream tone of their coats — which is exactly how they look on the ground. The only warm colour in the print is the thin band of rust-brown willow and spruce along the ridge.
The layout is the Canadian park service sheet used across this series, with the type in ice blue: cream border, small dark capitals along the top reading MANITOBA · 57.76° N, 92.66° W · EST 1996, and WAPUSK at the foot in heavy condensed type over NATIONAL PARK, with the Parks Canada wordmark and beaver roundel. Portrait, 2:3.
Why you'll love it
- One of the world's great denning grounds. Wapusk means "white bear" in Cree, and this is where the Hudson Bay population raises its cubs.
- A mother and cub, not a trophy shot. The pair are walking, drawn at a respectful distance, with the landscape given equal weight.
- The palest print in the series. It brightens a dark wall rather than filling it.
- Good for a child's room. Gentle colour, a recognisable animal, and no cartoon anywhere in it.
Sizes and materials
- Paper — archival matte, rolled and unframed. Nine sizes from 8" x 12" to 30" x 40", plus A4-A1 for European frames.
- Matte canvas — stretched on a wooden bar, no glare, ready to hang.
- Framed canvas — solid wood floating frame in white, black, espresso or natural.
- Pigment-based archival inks, rated to resist fading for decades indoors.
Styling it at home
Because it is so pale, this print needs a wall with some tone to it — soft grey, pale blue or a warm putty rather than brilliant white, where it can disappear. A thin black frame gives it an edge; natural oak keeps it soft. It is the best nursery or child's-room print in the Canada set, and it also works in a bathroom.
Shipping and care
Unframed prints ship rolled in a protective tube. Framed canvas arrives ready to hang. Keep prints out of direct sunlight to protect the colour, and dust canvas with a dry, soft cloth.
Questions people ask
What size should I get? Above a console or desk, 12" x 18" or 16" x 24". Above a sofa, bed or mantel, go 24" x 36" or larger so the print holds the wall.
Does it come framed? Paper and matte canvas ship unframed and fit standard frames. The framed canvas option arrives in a solid wood floating frame in white, black, espresso or natural.
Where is Wapusk? On the Hudson Bay coast of northern Manitoba, south of Churchill. The banner along the top gives the park's coordinates and its founding year, 1996.
Print & materials
Every design is made to order on one of three materials:
- Fine art paper — thick archival gallery-grade paper with a smooth matte finish, printed with fade-resistant pigment inks. The choice if you already own a frame.
- Matte canvas — gallery-wrapped over a solid wood stretcher, ready to hang straight out of the box. No glass, no glare.
- Framed canvas in white, black, espresso or natural wood — a slim solid-wood floating frame with the hanging hardware already fitted. Natural and espresso suit warm, timber-heavy rooms; white and black sit better in minimalist and monochrome spaces.
Sizes run from 8 x 12 inches up to large statement pieces, plus A4, A3, A2 and A1 for standard European frames. The exact sizes available for this design are listed in the Size menu above.

Materials
Three ways to print it.
Same artwork, same colour-managed printing — the material decides how it hangs and how much wall it holds.
Fine art paper
Thick archival gallery-grade paper with a smooth matte finish, printed with fade-resistant pigment inks.
- The most affordable option, and the one to pick if you already own a frame.
- Reads slightly softer than canvas.
- Ships rolled in a rigid tube.
Matte canvas
Gallery-wrapped over a solid wood stretcher, ready to hang straight out of the box.
- No glass, so no glare — good for bright rooms.
- Holds a touch more contrast than paper.
- Boxed with corner guards.
Framed canvas
A slim solid-wood floating frame with the hanging hardware already fitted, in white, black, espresso or natural wood.
- Natural and espresso suit warm, timber-heavy rooms.
- White and black sit better in minimalist and monochrome spaces.
- The usual choice for a feature wall — nothing to assemble.
