This Wanaka tree Lake Wanaka poster puts the lone willow exactly where you find it: standing in shallow water a short way off a pebble shore. Its leaning trunk and low, spreading branches catch the light, a long line of snow-capped peaks runs behind, and the whole foreground is a field of rippled blue lake.
About the artwork
A flat vector travel-poster illustration that treats the lake surface as hundreds of stacked ripple shapes rather than blended shading. The palette is built on petrol and cornflower blue water lit with pale sand and cream highlights, a chartreuse and olive canopy, dark umber bark, and grey-lilac mountains topped with clean white snow, under a graded teal sky. The tree sits just above centre so the water fills the lower two thirds, with rounded grey and cream pebbles crowding the bottom left corner. Across the top the poster prints LAKE WANAKA in tall white capitals, with NEW ZEALAND centred beneath. A clean white margin frames all four sides. Portrait, 2:3.
Why you'll love it
- One tree, one silhouette. The subject reads instantly from across a room, which is rare in landscape prints.
- Water with real texture. The ripple pattern gives the lower half movement and rewards standing close to it.
- Blue that works in almost any room. Petrol and cornflower are calm, cool and easy to build a scheme around.
- Snow and summer in one frame. Alpine peaks behind a green canopy make the seasons collide in a way people ask about.
Sizes and materials
- Paper — archival matte, rolled and unframed. Nine sizes from 8" x 12" to 30" x 40", plus A4–A1 for European frames.
- Matte canvas — stretched on a wooden bar, no glare, ready to hang.
- Framed canvas — solid wood floating frame in white, black, espresso or natural.
- Pigment-based archival inks, rated to resist fading for decades indoors.
Styling it at home
Cool blues look their best on a crisp white, pale grey or soft blue-green wall, and the print sharpens noticeably in a black frame against the cream shelf photograph. Natural oak warms it if your room leans Scandinavian. It settles a bedroom above a bedside table with a mushroom lamp, calms a bathroom, and pairs well with pale linen, brushed steel and a single trailing plant.
Shipping and care
Unframed prints ship rolled in a protective tube. Framed canvas arrives ready to hang. Keep prints out of direct sunlight to protect the colour, and dust canvas with a dry, soft cloth.
Questions people ask
What size should I get? Above a sofa or a bed, 24" x 36" or 30" x 40" holds the wall. For a gallery grid or a desk shelf, 12" x 18" and 16" x 24" sit comfortably. A2 and A3 fit standard European frames.
Does it come framed? Paper and matte canvas ship unframed. Framed canvas arrives in a solid wood floating frame in white, black, espresso or natural, ready to hang.
Is the tree really growing in the water? In this illustration the trunk rises straight out of the lake, with the pebble beach drawn separately in the near corner, so the tree appears to stand alone offshore.
Print & materials
Every design is made to order on one of three materials:
- Fine art paper — thick 200 gsm archival gallery-grade paper with a smooth matte finish, printed with fade-resistant pigment inks. The choice if you already own a frame.
- Matte canvas — gallery-wrapped over a solid wood stretcher, ready to hang straight out of the box. No glass, no glare.
- Framed canvas in white, black, espresso or natural wood — a slim solid-wood floating frame with the hanging hardware already fitted. Natural and espresso suit warm, timber-heavy rooms; white and black sit better in minimalist and monochrome spaces.
Sizes run from 8 x 12 inches up to large statement pieces, plus A4, A3, A2 and A1 for standard European frames. The exact sizes available for this design are listed in the Size menu above.

- Reads slightly softer than canvas.
- Ships rolled in a rigid tube.
Matte canvas
Gallery-wrapped over a solid wood stretcher, ready to hang straight out of the box.

- Boxed with corner guards.
Framed canvas
A slim solid-wood floating frame with the hanging hardware already fitted, in white, black, espresso or natural wood.
- Natural and espresso suit warm, timber-heavy rooms.
