This Strasbourg watercolor print shows the tall spire of Strasbourg Cathedral rising behind the towers of the Ponts Couverts and the half-timbered houses of Petite France. It is an artistic, watercolor-style interpretation of Strasbourg, not an exact view of the city.
About the artwork
Dense brown ink lines create the stone lacework of the pink sandstone cathedral over thin rosy washes, weeping willows fall in soft vertical green strokes, and the river is painted in blue strokes with white paper left between. Pink sandstone and timber brown lead the palette, with willow green, river blue and red geraniums on the balconies. The cathedral stands right of center with its single open spire reaching upward, and the three square, pointed towers of the Ponts Couverts stretch across the middle ground. The Ill River splits into canals crossed by stone bridges, and steep-roofed Alsatian half-timbered houses with flowers fill the left foreground. A long pink-red drip on the lower left and fresh greenery suggest late spring. "STRASBOURG" is set in spaced navy capitals across the top.
Why you'll love it
- Half-timbered houses. Flower boxes of red geraniums hang from timbered windows.
- Canal boat tour. A glass-roofed tour boat glides along the canal.
- Swans and cyclists. A pair of white swans swim as cyclists cross the bridge.
- Made to order. Printed after you buy, colour-managed, never warehoused.
Sizes and materials
- Paper — archival matte, rolled and unframed. Thirteen sizes in all: 8" x 12" through 30" x 40", plus A4–A1.
- Matte canvas — stretched on a wooden bar, no glare, ready to hang. 12" x 16" to 30" x 40".
- Framed canvas — solid wood floating frame in white, black, espresso or natural. 12" x 16" to 30" x 40".
- Pigment-based archival inks, rated to resist fading for decades indoors.
Styling it at home
Rose pink and timber brown suit a bedroom, a cozy kitchen or a hallway with cream or sage walls. It is a lovely gift for someone with family in Alsace or a couple who traveled through eastern France.
Shipping and care
Unframed prints ship rolled in a protective tube. Framed canvas arrives ready to hang. Keep prints out of direct sunlight to protect the colour, and dust canvas with a dry, soft cloth.
Questions people ask
Is this an exact view of Strasbourg? No. It is an artistic interpretation of Strasbourg. The cathedral spire is placed for balance in the painting, and other details are simplified.
What text is printed on it? Only the city name, "STRASBOURG," set in spaced navy capitals across the top. There is no other lettering on the print.
Print & materials
Every design is made to order on one of three materials:
- Fine art paper — thick 200 gsm archival gallery-grade paper with a smooth matte finish, printed with fade-resistant pigment inks. The choice if you already own a frame.
- Matte canvas — gallery-wrapped over a solid wood stretcher, ready to hang straight out of the box. No glass, no glare.
- Framed canvas in white, black, espresso or natural wood — a slim solid-wood floating frame with the hanging hardware already fitted. Natural and espresso suit warm, timber-heavy rooms; white and black sit better in minimalist and monochrome spaces.
Sizes run from 8 x 12 inches up to large statement pieces, plus A4, A3, A2 and A1 for standard European frames. The exact sizes available for this design are listed in the Size menu above.

Materials
Three ways to print it.
Same artwork, same colour-managed printing — the material decides how it hangs and how much wall it holds.
Fine art paper
Thick 200 gsm archival gallery-grade paper with a smooth matte finish, printed with fade-resistant pigment inks.
- The most affordable option, and the one to pick if you already own a frame.
- Reads slightly softer than canvas.
- Ships rolled in a rigid tube.
Matte canvas
Gallery-wrapped over a solid wood stretcher, ready to hang straight out of the box.
- No glass, so no glare — good for bright rooms.
- Holds a touch more contrast than paper.
- Boxed with corner guards.
Framed canvas
A slim solid-wood floating frame with the hanging hardware already fitted, in white, black, espresso or natural wood.
- Natural and espresso suit warm, timber-heavy rooms.
- White and black sit better in minimalist and monochrome spaces.
- The usual choice for a feature wall — nothing to assemble.
