This Solvang watercolor print shows a white Danish-style windmill above a street of half-timbered buildings, with a horse-drawn trolley carrying visitors through town. It is an artistic, watercolor-style interpretation of Solvang, not an exact view of the city.
About the artwork
Thin brown ink lines pick out the timber framing, the windmill's lattice sails and the balcony railings, and the paved street is laid in pale blue-gray patches. Whitewash and dark timber combine with orange-red tile roofs and leafy green, while red geraniums, red-and-white Danish flags and a red carriage add accents. The windmill rises on the left with its four sails in the upper third, and the street leads deep into the center between rows of Danish half-timbered buildings. A thatched cottage with two storks on its roof anchors the right foreground, and Santa Ynez Valley hills dotted with oaks and a church spire close the view. Full green trees and warm light suggest late spring or summer. "SOLVANG" is set in spaced navy capitals across the top.
Why you'll love it
- Storks on the thatch. Two white storks stand on a thatched roof in the right foreground.
- Horse-drawn trolley. A draft-horse trolley carries passengers down the street past red geranium planters.
- Village street life. A cyclist and a couple in straw hats pass old black lampposts.
- Made to order. Printed after you buy, colour-managed, never warehoused.
Sizes and materials
- Paper — archival matte, rolled and unframed. Thirteen sizes in all: 8" x 12" through 30" x 40", plus A4–A1.
- Matte canvas — stretched on a wooden bar, no glare, ready to hang. 12" x 16" to 30" x 40".
- Framed canvas — solid wood floating frame in white, black, espresso or natural. 12" x 16" to 30" x 40".
- Pigment-based archival inks, rated to resist fading for decades indoors.
Styling it at home
Warm whites, timber browns and geranium red feel at home in a farmhouse kitchen, a cozy dining room or a cottage-style entryway. It is a fun gift for anyone with Danish roots or fond memories of a Santa Ynez Valley weekend.
Shipping and care
Unframed prints ship rolled in a protective tube. Framed canvas arrives ready to hang. Keep prints out of direct sunlight to protect the colour, and dust canvas with a dry, soft cloth.
Questions people ask
Is this an exact view of Solvang? No. It is an artistic interpretation, and the valley hills are painted in a mix of green and dry gold rather than an exact seasonal match.
What text is printed on it? Only the city name, "SOLVANG," set in spaced navy capitals across the top. There is no other lettering on the print.
Print & materials
Every design is made to order on one of three materials:
- Fine art paper — thick 200 gsm archival gallery-grade paper with a smooth matte finish, printed with fade-resistant pigment inks. The choice if you already own a frame.
- Matte canvas — gallery-wrapped over a solid wood stretcher, ready to hang straight out of the box. No glass, no glare.
- Framed canvas in white, black, espresso or natural wood — a slim solid-wood floating frame with the hanging hardware already fitted. Natural and espresso suit warm, timber-heavy rooms; white and black sit better in minimalist and monochrome spaces.
Sizes run from 8 x 12 inches up to large statement pieces, plus A4, A3, A2 and A1 for standard European frames. The exact sizes available for this design are listed in the Size menu above.

Materials
Three ways to print it.
Same artwork, same colour-managed printing — the material decides how it hangs and how much wall it holds.
Fine art paper
Thick 200 gsm archival gallery-grade paper with a smooth matte finish, printed with fade-resistant pigment inks.
- The most affordable option, and the one to pick if you already own a frame.
- Reads slightly softer than canvas.
- Ships rolled in a rigid tube.
Matte canvas
Gallery-wrapped over a solid wood stretcher, ready to hang straight out of the box.
- No glass, so no glare — good for bright rooms.
- Holds a touch more contrast than paper.
- Boxed with corner guards.
Framed canvas
A slim solid-wood floating frame with the hanging hardware already fitted, in white, black, espresso or natural wood.
- Natural and espresso suit warm, timber-heavy rooms.
- White and black sit better in minimalist and monochrome spaces.
- The usual choice for a feature wall — nothing to assemble.
