This San Diego watercolor print shows the California Tower in Balboa Park, with the tiled dome of the California Building and the arches of Cabrillo Bridge leading to the West Gate. It is an artistic, watercolor-style interpretation of San Diego, not an exact view of the city.
About the artwork
Fine ink lines detail the carved tiers of the tower, the patterned tiles of the dome and the concrete arches of the bridge. Eucalyptus and palms are layered in greens, and the left edge breaks into green, yellow and purple leaf washes with a yellow-brown drip below white paper at the top. Cream Spanish stucco and eucalyptus green set the palette, with cobalt and gold dome tiles and orange bird-of-paradise blooms as accents. The tower stands right of center in the upper third with the tiled dome at its base, while the tall arches of the bridge run from the left toward the ornate gate. A leafy canyon with palms, eucalyptus and bird-of-paradise fills the foreground in early summer. "SAN DIEGO" is set in spaced navy capitals across the top.
Why you'll love it
- Tiled dome color. Cobalt and gold tiles on the dome add a bright Spanish accent.
- Bird-of-paradise blooms. Large orange and blue bird-of-paradise plants fill the front corner.
- Lamp-lined bridge. Walkers and cyclists cross the bridge past a row of old lamp posts.
- Made to order. Printed after you buy, colour-managed, never warehoused.
Sizes and materials
- Paper — archival matte, rolled and unframed. Thirteen sizes in all: 8" x 12" through 30" x 40", plus A4–A1.
- Matte canvas — stretched on a wooden bar, no glare, ready to hang. 12" x 16" to 30" x 40".
- Framed canvas — solid wood floating frame in white, black, espresso or natural. 12" x 16" to 30" x 40".
- Pigment-based archival inks, rated to resist fading for decades indoors.
Styling it at home
Cream, leafy green and cobalt accents suit a Spanish-style living room, sunroom or entryway with terracotta or blue tile. It is a cheerful gift for a San Diego native or a family who loves Balboa Park.
Shipping and care
Unframed prints ship rolled in a protective tube. Framed canvas arrives ready to hang. Keep prints out of direct sunlight to protect the colour, and dust canvas with a dry, soft cloth.
Questions people ask
Is this an exact view of San Diego? No. It is an artistic interpretation of San Diego in a watercolor style that captures the park setting rather than an exact view.
What text is printed on it? Only the city name, "SAN DIEGO," set in spaced navy capitals across the top. There is no other lettering on the print.
Print & materials
Every design is made to order on one of three materials:
- Fine art paper — thick 200 gsm archival gallery-grade paper with a smooth matte finish, printed with fade-resistant pigment inks. The choice if you already own a frame.
- Matte canvas — gallery-wrapped over a solid wood stretcher, ready to hang straight out of the box. No glass, no glare.
- Framed canvas in white, black, espresso or natural wood — a slim solid-wood floating frame with the hanging hardware already fitted. Natural and espresso suit warm, timber-heavy rooms; white and black sit better in minimalist and monochrome spaces.
Sizes run from 8 x 12 inches up to large statement pieces, plus A4, A3, A2 and A1 for standard European frames. The exact sizes available for this design are listed in the Size menu above.

Materials
Three ways to print it.
Same artwork, same colour-managed printing — the material decides how it hangs and how much wall it holds.
Fine art paper
Thick 200 gsm archival gallery-grade paper with a smooth matte finish, printed with fade-resistant pigment inks.
- The most affordable option, and the one to pick if you already own a frame.
- Reads slightly softer than canvas.
- Ships rolled in a rigid tube.
Matte canvas
Gallery-wrapped over a solid wood stretcher, ready to hang straight out of the box.
- No glass, so no glare — good for bright rooms.
- Holds a touch more contrast than paper.
- Boxed with corner guards.
Framed canvas
A slim solid-wood floating frame with the hanging hardware already fitted, in white, black, espresso or natural wood.
- Natural and espresso suit warm, timber-heavy rooms.
- White and black sit better in minimalist and monochrome spaces.
- The usual choice for a feature wall — nothing to assemble.
