A Salt Point State Park poster that looks north along the Sonoma coast from a shelf of honeycombed sandstone. Tafoni boulders fill the foreground, pitted with hundreds of round hollows. Clear turquoise water stands in the tide pools between them, a sandstone bluff topped with wind-shaped cypress rises on the right, and low sea stacks sit offshore under a bank of white cloud.
About the artwork
This is painted illustration rather than flat vector. The rock is modelled with layered shading so that every tafoni hollow reads separately, and the shallow water is built in transparent passes so submerged cobbles stay visible under the surface. The palette runs warm sandstone tan and ochre against turquoise and deep teal, with sage and near-black green in the cypress and the forested headland behind. Surf breaks in flat white bands and gulls are marked as small strokes against a pale blue sky. The caption sits across the lowest boulders in white capitals: SALT POINT, above STATE PARK · CALIFORNIA. Portrait, 2:3.
Why you'll love it
- The rock nobody expects — tafoni honeycomb weathering is the reason people pull off Highway 1 at Gerstle Cove, and it is the actual subject here rather than a generic headland.
- Water you can see into — the tide pools are painted in layers, so the print keeps working when you stand close to it.
- Warm against cool — tan sandstone set against turquoise keeps the piece lively in a room that leans neutral.
- Holds the wall — the big foreground boulders read clearly from across a room, and the pitted texture rewards a closer look.
Sizes and materials
- Paper — archival matte, rolled and unframed. Nine sizes from 8" x 12" to 30" x 40", plus A4-A1 for European frames.
- Matte canvas — stretched on a wooden bar, no glare, ready to hang.
- Framed canvas — solid wood floating frame in white, black, espresso or natural.
- Pigment-based archival inks, rated to resist fading for decades indoors.
Styling it at home
The sandstone tans sit naturally against clay, oatmeal and warm white walls, and the turquoise gives a cool note that stops the room going flat. It works well over a wood sideboard or beside a window, as in the sage and cream rooms in the photographs above. Natural oak framing picks up the ochre in the rock; black framing sharpens the water.
Shipping and care
Unframed prints ship rolled in a protective tube. Framed canvas arrives ready to hang. Keep prints out of direct sunlight to protect the colour, and dust canvas with a dry, soft cloth.
Questions people ask
What size should I get? For a bedside or a shelf, 12" x 18" is enough. Above a sofa or a sideboard, 24" x 36" keeps the foreground boulders at a readable scale. Portrait format, so measure your wall height first.
Does it come framed? Paper and matte canvas ship unframed. The framed canvas option arrives in a solid wood floating frame, wired and ready to hang.
What is the pitted rock in the picture? It is tafoni — honeycomb weathering in the sandstone along the Salt Point shoreline, formed as salt crystallises inside the stone and flakes it away from within.
Print & materials
Every design is made to order on one of three materials:
- Fine art paper — thick archival gallery-grade paper with a smooth matte finish, printed with fade-resistant pigment inks. The choice if you already own a frame.
- Matte canvas — gallery-wrapped over a solid wood stretcher, ready to hang straight out of the box. No glass, no glare.
- Framed canvas in white, black, espresso or natural wood — a slim solid-wood floating frame with the hanging hardware already fitted. Natural and espresso suit warm, timber-heavy rooms; white and black sit better in minimalist and monochrome spaces.
Sizes run from 8 x 12 inches up to large statement pieces, plus A4, A3, A2 and A1 for standard European frames. The exact sizes available for this design are listed in the Size menu above.

Three ways to print it.
Same artwork, same colour-managed printing — the material decides how it hangs and how much wall it holds.

Thick archival gallery-grade paper with a smooth matte finish, printed with fade-resistant pigment inks.
- The most affordable option, and the one to pick if you already own a frame.
- Reads slightly softer than canvas.
- Ships rolled in a rigid tube.
Matte canvas
Gallery-wrapped over a solid wood stretcher, ready to hang straight out of the box.
- No glass, so no glare — good for bright rooms.
- Holds a touch more contrast than paper.
- Boxed with corner guards.
Framed canvas
A slim solid-wood floating frame with the hanging hardware already fitted, in white, black, espresso or natural wood.
- Natural and espresso suit warm, timber-heavy rooms.
- White and black sit better in minimalist and monochrome spaces.
- The usual choice for a feature wall — nothing to assemble.
