This Salamanca Place Hobart poster looks across a busy market square on a bright morning, where rows of red, blue and cream marquees fill the paving in front of a long sandstone warehouse terrace. Shoppers move between the stalls, red tin roofs and hillside houses climb behind, and a huge forested mountain rises over the whole waterfront under a clear teal sky.
About the artwork
A flat vector travel-poster illustration with a high, slightly raised viewpoint that lets the market spread across the lower third. The palette pairs honey and butter-yellow sandstone with coral red roofs, cobalt and scarlet stall canopies, and a deep blue-green mountain that shifts from sunlit olive to shadowed teal. Hundreds of tiny figures are drawn as simple colour blocks, so the square feels crowded without becoming noisy. Fine window rows and arched ground-floor openings give the warehouse terrace its rhythm. The type is set in white capitals across the sky, reading HOBART above a smaller AUSTRALIA. A clean white margin surrounds the scene. Portrait, 2:3.
Why you'll love it
- A city and a mountain in one frame. The forested slope towers over the sandstone terrace, which is exactly how Hobart reads in person.
- Market colour without clutter. Red and blue canopies give the print energy while the mountain keeps the top half calm.
- Full of small stories. Stallholders, shoppers, a dog, umbrellas and produce tables reward looking closely.
- Warm sandstone tones. The honey-coloured stone flatters timber furniture and brass or bronze fittings.
Sizes and materials
- Paper — archival matte, rolled and unframed. Nine sizes from 8" x 12" to 30" x 40", plus A4–A1 for European frames.
- Matte canvas — stretched on a wooden bar, no glare, ready to hang.
- Framed canvas — solid wood floating frame in white, black, espresso or natural.
- Pigment-based archival inks, rated to resist fading for decades indoors.
Styling it at home
Market colour and warm stone make this a natural fit for a kitchen, a breakfast nook or a dining wall. Try it on butter cream, warm putty or a deep forest green, which picks up the mountain. A walnut or cherry frame leans into the heritage sandstone; light oak keeps it fresher for a kitchen shelf. It sits happily near open shelving, ceramic bowls, terracotta and a wooden chopping board, and the red canopies pull out any copper in the room.
Shipping and care
Unframed prints ship rolled in a protective tube. Framed canvas arrives ready to hang. Keep prints out of direct sunlight to protect the colour, and dust canvas with a dry, soft cloth.
Questions people ask
What size should I get? This design carries a lot of small detail, so 20" x 30" and up shows the stalls best. For a kitchen or a gallery grouping, 12" x 18" and 18" x 24" still read clearly.
Does it come framed? Paper prints arrive rolled and unframed. Canvas can be ordered stretched, or as framed canvas in white, black, espresso or natural.
What is the mountain behind the buildings? It is the forested peak that rises directly behind the Hobart waterfront, drawn here in deep blue-green with sunlit ridges.
Print & materials
Every design is made to order on one of three materials:
- Fine art paper — thick 200 gsm archival gallery-grade paper with a smooth matte finish, printed with fade-resistant pigment inks. The choice if you already own a frame.
- Matte canvas — gallery-wrapped over a solid wood stretcher, ready to hang straight out of the box. No glass, no glare.
- Framed canvas in white, black, espresso or natural wood — a slim solid-wood floating frame with the hanging hardware already fitted. Natural and espresso suit warm, timber-heavy rooms; white and black sit better in minimalist and monochrome spaces.
Sizes run from 8 x 12 inches up to large statement pieces, plus A4, A3, A2 and A1 for standard European frames. The exact sizes available for this design are listed in the Size menu above.

Matte canvas
Gallery-wrapped over a solid wood stretcher, ready to hang straight out of the box.

Framed canvas
A slim solid-wood floating frame with the hanging hardware already fitted, in white, black, espresso or natural wood.
- Natural and espresso suit warm, timber-heavy rooms.
