This New Haven watercolor print shows the Gothic Harkness Tower rising beyond the New Haven Green, with Trinity Church on the Green and West Rock in the background. It is an artistic, watercolor-style interpretation of New Haven, not an exact view of the city.
About the artwork
Very fine, dense ink lines describe the Gothic details, from the lancet windows to the pinnacles at the top of the tower. The tree canopy is layered in orange, gold and green, and both side edges melt into orange, moss and blue washes with long drips. Grass green and autumn orange-gold lead the palette, with honey-beige limestone, red brick, a white bell tower and the violet-blue cliffs of West Rock. The tower stands right of center, the brownstone Trinity Church on the Green and a red brick church with a white bell tower sit to the left, and another brick church is on the right. The foreground is the Green itself, with a diagonal path under large trees in early fall. "NEW HAVEN" is set in spaced navy capitals across the top.
Why you'll love it
- Gothic stonework. The tower's pointed windows and pinnacles are drawn in careful ink detail.
- Life on the Green. Students walk the paths, a cyclist passes and someone reads on a bench.
- Vintage lampposts. Old-style lamps line the path that crosses the Green.
- Made to order. Printed after you buy, colour-managed, never warehoused.
Sizes and materials
- Paper — archival matte, rolled and unframed. Thirteen sizes in all: 8" x 12" through 30" x 40", plus A4–A1.
- Matte canvas — stretched on a wooden bar, no glare, ready to hang. 12" x 16" to 30" x 40".
- Framed canvas — solid wood floating frame in white, black, espresso or natural. 12" x 16" to 30" x 40".
- Pigment-based archival inks, rated to resist fading for decades indoors.
Styling it at home
Its warm autumn tones suit a library, a home office or a living room with deep green, burgundy or walnut accents. It makes a meaningful gift for a graduate, a professor, or anyone who spent their autumns in New Haven.
Shipping and care
Unframed prints ship rolled in a protective tube. Framed canvas arrives ready to hang. Keep prints out of direct sunlight to protect the colour, and dust canvas with a dry, soft cloth.
Questions people ask
Is this an exact view of New Haven? No. It is an artistic interpretation, and the tower and the churches on the Green are arranged together in one loose view.
What text is printed on it? Only the city name, "NEW HAVEN," set in spaced navy capitals across the top. There is no other lettering on the print.
Print & materials
Every design is made to order on one of three materials:
- Fine art paper — thick 200 gsm archival gallery-grade paper with a smooth matte finish, printed with fade-resistant pigment inks. The choice if you already own a frame.
- Matte canvas — gallery-wrapped over a solid wood stretcher, ready to hang straight out of the box. No glass, no glare.
- Framed canvas in white, black, espresso or natural wood — a slim solid-wood floating frame with the hanging hardware already fitted. Natural and espresso suit warm, timber-heavy rooms; white and black sit better in minimalist and monochrome spaces.
Sizes run from 8 x 12 inches up to large statement pieces, plus A4, A3, A2 and A1 for standard European frames. The exact sizes available for this design are listed in the Size menu above.

Materials
Three ways to print it.
Same artwork, same colour-managed printing — the material decides how it hangs and how much wall it holds.
Fine art paper
Thick 200 gsm archival gallery-grade paper with a smooth matte finish, printed with fade-resistant pigment inks.
- The most affordable option, and the one to pick if you already own a frame.
- Reads slightly softer than canvas.
- Ships rolled in a rigid tube.
Matte canvas
Gallery-wrapped over a solid wood stretcher, ready to hang straight out of the box.
- No glass, so no glare — good for bright rooms.
- Holds a touch more contrast than paper.
- Boxed with corner guards.
Framed canvas
A slim solid-wood floating frame with the hanging hardware already fitted, in white, black, espresso or natural wood.
- Natural and espresso suit warm, timber-heavy rooms.
- White and black sit better in minimalist and monochrome spaces.
- The usual choice for a feature wall — nothing to assemble.
