A National Gallery of Canada poster from the plaza in front of the entrance: the faceted glass tower of the Great Hall rising in the centre, the giant bronze spider standing on its long legs below it, the spires of Parliament Hill behind on the left, and autumn trees against the granite wall on the right.
About the artwork
Glass is the subject. The Great Hall is drawn pane by pane, with each facet given its own tone — pale sky blue where it reflects, deep teal where it looks into shadow, and a couple of white highlights where the sun catches an edge — so the tower reads as crystalline rather than as a blue shape. Against it the spider is a spare bronze silhouette, and its long legs cast hard shadows across the pale paving in the foreground. The Gothic Revival spires at the left are drawn small and grey-green, and a run of coral autumn foliage warms the right side. Title in white capitals, OTTAWA above CANADA. Portrait, 2:3.
Why you'll love it
- Ottawa's other landmark. Everyone prints Parliament; this is the building art people actually visit.
- Glass drawn as glass. Each facet is a different tone, which is what makes the tower feel lit from inside.
- A silhouette you cannot mistake. The spider on the plaza is one of the most recognisable objects in the city.
- Teal and coral. The autumn trees give the cool palette a warm counterweight.
Sizes and materials
- Paper — archival matte, rolled and unframed. Nine sizes from 8" x 12" to 30" x 40", plus A4-A1 for European frames.
- Matte canvas — stretched on a wooden bar, no glare, ready to hang.
- Framed canvas — solid wood floating frame in white, black, espresso or natural.
- Pigment-based archival inks, rated to resist fading for decades indoors.
Styling it at home
An obvious print for a room that already holds art — a studio, a hallway of framed pieces, a landing above a bookcase. Pale grey and white walls let the glass tones separate; warm beige mutes them. Black or natural frames both work. At 16" x 24" the facets still read individually, so it does not have to be large.
Shipping and care
Unframed prints ship rolled in a protective tube. Framed canvas arrives ready to hang. Keep prints out of direct sunlight to protect the colour, and dust canvas with a dry, soft cloth.
Questions people ask
What size should I get? Above a console or desk, 12" x 18" or 16" x 24". Above a sofa, bed or mantel, go 24" x 36" or larger so the print holds the wall.
Does it come framed? Paper and matte canvas ship unframed and fit standard frames. The framed canvas option arrives in a solid wood floating frame in white, black, espresso or natural.
What is the spider? The large bronze spider sculpture, titled Maman, that stands on the plaza outside the National Gallery of Canada in Ottawa.
Print & materials
Every design is made to order on one of three materials:
- Fine art paper — thick archival gallery-grade paper with a smooth matte finish, printed with fade-resistant pigment inks. The choice if you already own a frame.
- Matte canvas — gallery-wrapped over a solid wood stretcher, ready to hang straight out of the box. No glass, no glare.
- Framed canvas in white, black, espresso or natural wood — a slim solid-wood floating frame with the hanging hardware already fitted. Natural and espresso suit warm, timber-heavy rooms; white and black sit better in minimalist and monochrome spaces.
Sizes run from 8 x 12 inches up to large statement pieces, plus A4, A3, A2 and A1 for standard European frames. The exact sizes available for this design are listed in the Size menu above.

Materials
Three ways to print it.
Same artwork, same colour-managed printing — the material decides how it hangs and how much wall it holds.
Fine art paper
Thick archival gallery-grade paper with a smooth matte finish, printed with fade-resistant pigment inks.
- The most affordable option, and the one to pick if you already own a frame.
- Reads slightly softer than canvas.
- Ships rolled in a rigid tube.
Matte canvas
Gallery-wrapped over a solid wood stretcher, ready to hang straight out of the box.
- No glass, so no glare — good for bright rooms.
- Holds a touch more contrast than paper.
- Boxed with corner guards.
Framed canvas
A slim solid-wood floating frame with the hanging hardware already fitted, in white, black, espresso or natural wood.
- Natural and espresso suit warm, timber-heavy rooms.
- White and black sit better in minimalist and monochrome spaces.
- The usual choice for a feature wall — nothing to assemble.
