A Nahanni National Park poster looking upstream at Virginia Falls: a broad white sheet of water dropping into the canyon, a dark rock spire splitting it in two, and the South Nahanni running out toward the viewer between layered cliffs.
About the artwork
A canyon print built on one strong vertical and one strong horizontal. The falls are worked in dense white and pale blue strokes with the spray held as a soft bloom at their foot, and the spire in the middle is left almost black so it reads as the anchor of the whole picture. Below, the river is a wide braid of white water and dark green pools running the length of the frame, and the canyon walls step back on both sides in flat bands of grey and olive with spruce clinging to every ledge. Boulders and dark firs hold the near bank.
The layout is the Canadian park service sheet used across this series: cream border, small dark capitals along the top reading NORTHWEST TERRITORIES · 61.61° N, 125.90° W · EST 1972, and NAHANNI at the foot in heavy condensed type over NATIONAL PARK, with the Parks Canada wordmark and beaver roundel. Portrait, 2:3.
Why you'll love it
- Twice the height of Niagara. Virginia Falls drops around 96 metres, and the rock spire in the middle is what gives it scale.
- One of the first UNESCO World Heritage sites. Nahanni was on the original 1978 list.
- Water that moves. The braided river in the lower half is drawn stroke by stroke rather than washed in.
- Remote country. Reachable only by float plane, which is exactly why people want it on a wall.
Sizes and materials
- Paper — archival matte, rolled and unframed. Nine sizes from 8" x 12" to 30" x 40", plus A4-A1 for European frames.
- Matte canvas — stretched on a wooden bar, no glare, ready to hang.
- Framed canvas — solid wood floating frame in white, black, espresso or natural.
- Pigment-based archival inks, rated to resist fading for decades indoors.
Styling it at home
Cool greens and greys with a bright white centre — it needs a plain wall so the falls stay the brightest thing in view. White, bone and pale grey all work; a busy wallpaper kills it. Black frames sharpen the canyon edges. The strong vertical suits a stairwell or a tall narrow wall, and it pairs well with Montmorency Falls from the travel series if you want two waterfalls.
Shipping and care
Unframed prints ship rolled in a protective tube. Framed canvas arrives ready to hang. Keep prints out of direct sunlight to protect the colour, and dust canvas with a dry, soft cloth.
Questions people ask
What size should I get? Above a console or desk, 12" x 18" or 16" x 24". Above a sofa, bed or mantel, go 24" x 36" or larger so the print holds the wall.
Does it come framed? Paper and matte canvas ship unframed and fit standard frames. The framed canvas option arrives in a solid wood floating frame in white, black, espresso or natural.
What is the rock in the middle of the falls? Mason's Rock, the spire that splits Virginia Falls on the South Nahanni River. The banner along the top gives the reserve's coordinates and its founding year, 1972.
Print & materials
Every design is made to order on one of three materials:
- Fine art paper — thick archival gallery-grade paper with a smooth matte finish, printed with fade-resistant pigment inks. The choice if you already own a frame.
- Matte canvas — gallery-wrapped over a solid wood stretcher, ready to hang straight out of the box. No glass, no glare.
- Framed canvas in white, black, espresso or natural wood — a slim solid-wood floating frame with the hanging hardware already fitted. Natural and espresso suit warm, timber-heavy rooms; white and black sit better in minimalist and monochrome spaces.
Sizes run from 8 x 12 inches up to large statement pieces, plus A4, A3, A2 and A1 for standard European frames. The exact sizes available for this design are listed in the Size menu above.

Materials
Three ways to print it.
Same artwork, same colour-managed printing — the material decides how it hangs and how much wall it holds.
Fine art paper
Thick archival gallery-grade paper with a smooth matte finish, printed with fade-resistant pigment inks.
- The most affordable option, and the one to pick if you already own a frame.
- Reads slightly softer than canvas.
- Ships rolled in a rigid tube.
Matte canvas
Gallery-wrapped over a solid wood stretcher, ready to hang straight out of the box.
- No glass, so no glare — good for bright rooms.
- Holds a touch more contrast than paper.
- Boxed with corner guards.
Framed canvas
A slim solid-wood floating frame with the hanging hardware already fitted, in white, black, espresso or natural wood.
- Natural and espresso suit warm, timber-heavy rooms.
- White and black sit better in minimalist and monochrome spaces.
- The usual choice for a feature wall — nothing to assemble.
