A Multnomah Falls illustrated print that looks straight up the full 620-foot drop in the Columbia River Gorge. The upper plume falls as one narrow white ribbon down a dark basalt wall, passes beneath the arch of Benson Bridge, then breaks into a wider lower cascade that fans out into a still green plunge pool. Douglas firs crowd both walls of the canyon.
About the artwork
This is the painted treatment of the falls rather than a flat-colour one. Foliage is built up cluster by cluster, the basalt carries soft brushed gradients, and the shadows are poured in deep and saturated instead of blocked out. The palette runs from pale glacier blue in the falling water through sage, moss and near-black pine, with a band of rust-red vine maple at the lower left and cream cumulus stacked over a teal sky. The title sits at the foot of the image in white: MULTNOMAH FALLS above a widely letterspaced OREGON. Portrait, 2:3.
Why you'll love it
- The bridge is the anchor. Benson Bridge crosses at the midpoint, so the eye reads the height of the drop against something human-scaled.
- Two waterfalls in one frame. The narrow upper tier and the broad lower tier are both painted in full, the way the falls actually look from the viewing platform.
- Depth you can stand back from. Layered conifers push the canyon walls apart and give the image real distance at larger sizes.
- A specific memory. Recognisable to anyone who has walked the paved trail up from the Historic Columbia River Highway.
Sizes and materials
- Paper — archival matte, rolled and unframed. Nine sizes from 8" x 12" to 30" x 40", plus A4-A1 for European frames.
- Matte canvas — stretched on a wooden bar, no glare, ready to hang.
- Framed canvas — solid wood floating frame in white, black, espresso or natural.
- Pigment-based archival inks, rated to resist fading for decades indoors.
Styling it at home
The greens here are deep and cool rather than bright, so the print holds its own against warm walls: clay, oatmeal, putty. Against white it reads almost like a window. Natural oak suits the moss and bark tones best, as in the bedroom sideboard photograph above; black framing sharpens the contrast between the white water and the dark basalt.
Shipping and care
Unframed prints ship rolled in a protective tube. Framed canvas arrives ready to hang. Keep prints out of direct sunlight to protect the colour, and dust canvas with a dry, soft cloth.
Questions people ask
What size should I get? The vertical drop rewards height. Over a bedside table or a narrow console, 18" x 24" is enough; on an open living room wall, 24" x 36" lets the upper plume and the lower cascade both read clearly.
Does it come framed? Paper and matte canvas ship unframed. The framed canvas option arrives stretched inside a solid wood floating frame in white, black, espresso or natural.
Is this the same as your other Multnomah Falls design? No. We draw this location twice. The other version is a flat vector treatment built from clean blocks of colour with the place name set across the top of the image. This one is the painted version: brushed gradients, dense layered foliage, deeper shadow, and the lettering placed along the bottom edge instead.
What does the print say? MULTNOMAH FALLS in bold capitals along the base, with OREGON letterspaced underneath.
Print & materials
Every design is made to order on one of three materials:
- Fine art paper — thick archival gallery-grade paper with a smooth matte finish, printed with fade-resistant pigment inks. The choice if you already own a frame.
- Matte canvas — gallery-wrapped over a solid wood stretcher, ready to hang straight out of the box. No glass, no glare.
- Framed canvas in white, black, espresso or natural wood — a slim solid-wood floating frame with the hanging hardware already fitted. Natural and espresso suit warm, timber-heavy rooms; white and black sit better in minimalist and monochrome spaces.
Sizes run from 8 x 12 inches up to large statement pieces, plus A4, A3, A2 and A1 for standard European frames. The exact sizes available for this design are listed in the Size menu above.

Framed canvas
A slim solid-wood floating frame with the hanging hardware already fitted, in white, black, espresso or natural wood.
