A Mitre Peak Milford Sound poster taken from the shingle at the water's edge, where the pointed summit rises straight out of the fiord and drops back into it as a long mirrored reflection. Thin waterfall lines streak the cliff faces on both sides, dark headlands step away toward the open end of the sound, and pale boulders sit in the shallows in the foreground.
About the artwork
Drawn as a flat vector travel-poster illustration, the fiord is built from banded shapes: crisp ripple lines across the water, hard-edged rock planes and simplified clumps of bush. The palette is almost entirely cool, moving from a pale duck-egg sky through teal and petrol-blue water to grey-green cliffs, olive scrub and warm sandstone rocks at the bottom edge. The composition is symmetrical around the reflection, with the peak set left of centre. Across the sky the poster prints MILFORD SOUND in wide capitals and NEW ZEALAND beneath. A thin white margin frames all four sides. Portrait, 2:3.
Why you'll love it
- A peak that reads instantly. The sharp triangular summit of Mitre Peak is one of the most recognisable outlines in the country.
- Calm by design. Still water and a narrow cool palette make this one of the quietest prints in the range.
- Reflection as composition. The mirrored peak fills the lower half and doubles the drama without extra clutter.
- Waterfall detail. Fine white lines down the cliffs reward a closer look at larger sizes.
Sizes and materials
- Paper — archival matte, rolled and unframed. Nine sizes from 8" x 12" to 30" x 40", plus A4–A1 for European frames.
- Matte canvas — stretched on a wooden bar, no glare, ready to hang.
- Framed canvas — solid wood floating frame in white, black, espresso or natural.
- Pigment-based archival inks, rated to resist fading for decades indoors.
Styling it at home
The all-teal palette behaves like a neutral, so it settles easily on soft white, pale grey or a deeper petrol-blue wall. Warm timber is the best counterweight: a walnut console, an oak shelf, or the cane and rattan pieces in the room photographs. It works well in a bedroom for its stillness, above a desk where a busy print would distract, or in a bathroom paired with sandstone and linen tones.
Shipping and care
Unframed prints ship rolled in a protective tube. Framed canvas arrives ready to hang. Keep prints out of direct sunlight to protect the colour, and dust canvas with a dry, soft cloth.
Questions people ask
What size should I get? Above a sofa or bed, 24" x 36" or 30" x 40" holds the wall. For a desk, shelf or gallery grouping, 12" x 18" and 16" x 24" are the easiest to place.
Does it come framed? Paper and matte canvas arrive unframed. The framed canvas option adds a solid wood floating frame in white, black, espresso or natural.
Does it pair with a warmer print? Yes. Its cool teals sit comfortably beside gold or green landscape prints in a gallery wall, since the artwork carries no competing warm colour of its own.
Print & materials
Every design is made to order on one of three materials:
- Fine art paper — thick 200 gsm archival gallery-grade paper with a smooth matte finish, printed with fade-resistant pigment inks. The choice if you already own a frame.
- Matte canvas — gallery-wrapped over a solid wood stretcher, ready to hang straight out of the box. No glass, no glare.
- Framed canvas in white, black, espresso or natural wood — a slim solid-wood floating frame with the hanging hardware already fitted. Natural and espresso suit warm, timber-heavy rooms; white and black sit better in minimalist and monochrome spaces.
Sizes run from 8 x 12 inches up to large statement pieces, plus A4, A3, A2 and A1 for standard European frames. The exact sizes available for this design are listed in the Size menu above.
