This Los Angeles watercolor print shows Griffith Observatory on a ridge in Griffith Park, with a dirt trail in front and the downtown Los Angeles skyline in the distance. It is an artistic, watercolor-style interpretation of Los Angeles, not an exact view of the city.
About the artwork
Fine ink lines draw the three domes, the Art Deco facade and the Astronomers Monument. Chaparral slopes are dotted in olive green and gold, the dirt trail is left in pale beige, and the left edge and bottom break into coral, pink and blue washes with long drips. Art Deco white and verdigris domes sit among sage-green brush in golden California light, with wild mustard yellow, coral and terracotta roofs as accents. The observatory sits left of center on the ridge in the middle of the picture, downtown towers rise far off on the right, and a valley of tiled roofs and palms fills the middle ground. A winding trail with rocks, yucca and sage drops through the foreground after late-winter rain. "LOS ANGELES" is set in spaced navy capitals across the top.
Why you'll love it
- Hillside hikers. Two hikers with backpacks climb the winding trail.
- Nature-first view. Green hills fill most of the picture, with the city kept small and far away.
- Hawk in the sky. A hawk circles overhead while a few cars wind up to the observatory.
- Made to order. Printed after you buy, colour-managed, never warehoused.
Sizes and materials
- Paper — archival matte, rolled and unframed. Thirteen sizes in all: 8" x 12" through 30" x 40", plus A4–A1.
- Matte canvas — stretched on a wooden bar, no glare, ready to hang. 12" x 16" to 30" x 40".
- Framed canvas — solid wood floating frame in white, black, espresso or natural. 12" x 16" to 30" x 40".
- Pigment-based archival inks, rated to resist fading for decades indoors.
Styling it at home
Sage green, warm beige and gold suit a sunny living room, home office or California-casual bedroom. It is a nice gift for a hiker, a stargazer or someone who just moved to LA.
Shipping and care
Unframed prints ship rolled in a protective tube. Framed canvas arrives ready to hang. Keep prints out of direct sunlight to protect the colour, and dust canvas with a dry, soft cloth.
Questions people ask
Is this an exact view of Los Angeles? No. It is an artistic interpretation of Los Angeles in watercolor style, painted to capture the hills and light rather than an exact view.
What text is printed on it? Only the city name, "LOS ANGELES," set in spaced navy capitals across the top. There is no other lettering on the print.
Print & materials
Every design is made to order on one of three materials:
- Fine art paper — thick 200 gsm archival gallery-grade paper with a smooth matte finish, printed with fade-resistant pigment inks. The choice if you already own a frame.
- Matte canvas — gallery-wrapped over a solid wood stretcher, ready to hang straight out of the box. No glass, no glare.
- Framed canvas in white, black, espresso or natural wood — a slim solid-wood floating frame with the hanging hardware already fitted. Natural and espresso suit warm, timber-heavy rooms; white and black sit better in minimalist and monochrome spaces.
Sizes run from 8 x 12 inches up to large statement pieces, plus A4, A3, A2 and A1 for standard European frames. The exact sizes available for this design are listed in the Size menu above.

Materials
Three ways to print it.
Same artwork, same colour-managed printing — the material decides how it hangs and how much wall it holds.
Fine art paper
Thick 200 gsm archival gallery-grade paper with a smooth matte finish, printed with fade-resistant pigment inks.
- The most affordable option, and the one to pick if you already own a frame.
- Reads slightly softer than canvas.
- Ships rolled in a rigid tube.
Matte canvas
Gallery-wrapped over a solid wood stretcher, ready to hang straight out of the box.
- No glass, so no glare — good for bright rooms.
- Holds a touch more contrast than paper.
- Boxed with corner guards.
Framed canvas
A slim solid-wood floating frame with the hanging hardware already fitted, in white, black, espresso or natural wood.
- Natural and espresso suit warm, timber-heavy rooms.
- White and black sit better in minimalist and monochrome spaces.
- The usual choice for a feature wall — nothing to assemble.
