A Longhorn Cavern State Park poster looking out from inside the cave toward daylight. Heavy flowstone columns and a curtain of stalactites fill the left and top of the frame, a long pale drapery hangs down the middle, and the mouth opens onto wooded limestone hills under a blue sky. A shallow green pool sits across the cave floor in the foreground.
About the artwork
Painted in a layered, high-detail style, with the cave formations built from hundreds of vertical ripples so the calcite reads as poured stone rather than flat shape. The palette is warm inside and cool outside: rust, tobacco brown, ochre and bone in the flowstone, near-black in the ceiling recesses, then oak and cedar greens, pale limestone grey and a clear cobalt sky through the opening, with jade green in the pool. Set in white capitals at the base: LONGHORN CAVERN, with STATE PARK • TEXAS beneath. Portrait, 2:3.
Why you'll love it
- A river-carved cave — Longhorn Cavern was dissolved out of limestone by an underground river, which is why its passages are smooth rather than jagged.
- CCC country — the Civilian Conservation Corps cleared and built out the park in the 1930s, and the stonework above ground is part of the visit.
- Inside and outside in one frame — the cave mouth turns the Hill Country into a picture within the picture.
- Warm browns with a cool centre — an unusual palette for a landscape print, and easy to place in a panelled or wood-heavy room.
Sizes and materials
- Paper — archival matte, rolled and unframed. Nine sizes from 8" x 12" to 30" x 40", plus A4-A1 for European frames.
- Matte canvas — stretched on a wooden bar, no glare, ready to hang.
- Framed canvas — solid wood floating frame in white, black, espresso or natural.
- Pigment-based archival inks, rated to resist fading for decades indoors.
Styling it at home
The browns are deep enough that this print needs light around it: cream, bone or warm white walls, or a wood-panelled study where the tobacco tones and the timber agree. The green pool and the view through the mouth give a room with olive or forest textiles something to answer. An espresso frame melts into the cave rock, while a white floating frame keeps a clear edge, as in the arched alcove in the photographs above.
Shipping and care
Unframed prints ship rolled in a protective tube. Framed canvas arrives ready to hang. Keep prints out of direct sunlight to protect the colour, and dust canvas with a dry, soft cloth.
Questions people ask
What size should I get? The flowstone ripples carry most of the detail, so 24" x 36" and up rewards a close look. In a hallway or a home office, 16" x 24" keeps the cave mouth reading clearly.
Does it come framed? Paper and matte canvas ship unframed. The framed canvas option arrives in a solid wood floating frame in white, black, espresso or natural, ready to hang.
What does the poster say? The lettering reads LONGHORN CAVERN on the first line and STATE PARK • TEXAS on the second. Burnet County is not named on the artwork.
How does it differ from the other Texas prints? This is the only underground subject in the Texas group. The shop's other Texas prints are above ground: canyon rims, river bends, sand dunes and hill country woods.
Print & materials
Every design is made to order on one of three materials:
- Fine art paper — thick archival gallery-grade paper with a smooth matte finish, printed with fade-resistant pigment inks. The choice if you already own a frame.
- Matte canvas — gallery-wrapped over a solid wood stretcher, ready to hang straight out of the box. No glass, no glare.
- Framed canvas in white, black, espresso or natural wood — a slim solid-wood floating frame with the hanging hardware already fitted. Natural and espresso suit warm, timber-heavy rooms; white and black sit better in minimalist and monochrome spaces.
Sizes run from 8 x 12 inches up to large statement pieces, plus A4, A3, A2 and A1 for standard European frames. The exact sizes available for this design are listed in the Size menu above.

Thick archival gallery-grade paper with a smooth matte finish, printed with fade-resistant pigment inks.

- Reads slightly softer than canvas.

Matte canvas
Gallery-wrapped over a solid wood stretcher, ready to hang straight out of the box.
- No glass, so no glare — good for bright rooms.

- Boxed with corner guards.
Framed canvas
A slim solid-wood floating frame with the hanging hardware already fitted, in white, black, espresso or natural wood.
- Natural and espresso suit warm, timber-heavy rooms.
