This La Jolla watercolor print shows La Jolla Cove with its sea caves and turquoise water, sea lions resting on the rocks and Ellen Browning Scripps Park on the clifftop. It is an artistic, watercolor-style interpretation of La Jolla, not an exact view of the city.
About the artwork
Layered golden-brown washes build the sandstone cliffs, and ink lines mark the cracks and the dark mouths of the La Jolla sea caves. Clear turquoise cove water and deeper Pacific blue contrast with sandy cliffs, pink-purple ice plant, palm green and red tile roofs. Three caves open in the cliff at left center, the cove fills the middle, and the park lawn, white villas, tall palms and Torrey pines run along the top. A long curving coastline closes the background, while a rocky ledge with sea lions and blooming ice plant fills the spring foreground. The lower left dissolves into pink-purple flower dots and a long golden drip. "LA JOLLA" is set in spaced navy capitals across the top.
Why you'll love it
- Sea lion colony. A group of sea lions sunbathes on the rocks while a pelican perches on a ledge to the right.
- Kayaks in the cove. Yellow and orange kayaks and a snorkeler add small bursts of color to the clear water.
- Spring ice plant. A carpet of pink-purple ice plant blooms across the foreground rocks.
- Made to order. Printed after you buy, colour-managed, never warehoused.
Sizes and materials
- Paper — archival matte, rolled and unframed. Thirteen sizes in all: 8" x 12" through 30" x 40", plus A4–A1.
- Matte canvas — stretched on a wooden bar, no glare, ready to hang. 12" x 16" to 30" x 40".
- Framed canvas — solid wood floating frame in white, black, espresso or natural. 12" x 16" to 30" x 40".
- Pigment-based archival inks, rated to resist fading for decades indoors.
Styling it at home
Its turquoise, sand and pink tones brighten a bathroom, a guest room or a coastal-style living room. It is a sweet keepsake of a San Diego honeymoon or a gift for anyone who has paddled the cove.
Shipping and care
Unframed prints ship rolled in a protective tube. Framed canvas arrives ready to hang. Keep prints out of direct sunlight to protect the colour, and dust canvas with a dry, soft cloth.
Questions people ask
Is this an exact view of La Jolla? No. It is an artistic interpretation that combines the cove, the sea caves and the clifftop park into one watercolor scene.
What text is printed on it? Only the city name, "LA JOLLA," set in spaced navy capitals across the top. There is no other lettering on the print.
Print & materials
Every design is made to order on one of three materials:
- Fine art paper — thick 200 gsm archival gallery-grade paper with a smooth matte finish, printed with fade-resistant pigment inks. The choice if you already own a frame.
- Matte canvas — gallery-wrapped over a solid wood stretcher, ready to hang straight out of the box. No glass, no glare.
- Framed canvas in white, black, espresso or natural wood — a slim solid-wood floating frame with the hanging hardware already fitted. Natural and espresso suit warm, timber-heavy rooms; white and black sit better in minimalist and monochrome spaces.
Sizes run from 8 x 12 inches up to large statement pieces, plus A4, A3, A2 and A1 for standard European frames. The exact sizes available for this design are listed in the Size menu above.

Materials
Three ways to print it.
Same artwork, same colour-managed printing — the material decides how it hangs and how much wall it holds.
Fine art paper
Thick 200 gsm archival gallery-grade paper with a smooth matte finish, printed with fade-resistant pigment inks.
- The most affordable option, and the one to pick if you already own a frame.
- Reads slightly softer than canvas.
- Ships rolled in a rigid tube.
Matte canvas
Gallery-wrapped over a solid wood stretcher, ready to hang straight out of the box.
- No glass, so no glare — good for bright rooms.
- Holds a touch more contrast than paper.
- Boxed with corner guards.
Framed canvas
A slim solid-wood floating frame with the hanging hardware already fitted, in white, black, espresso or natural wood.
- Natural and espresso suit warm, timber-heavy rooms.
- White and black sit better in minimalist and monochrome spaces.
- The usual choice for a feature wall — nothing to assemble.
