This Kilkenny watercolor print shows the round towers of Kilkenny Castle above the River Nore, with a three-arch stone bridge and a low weir in front. It is an artistic, watercolor-style interpretation of Kilkenny, not an exact view of the city.
About the artwork
Fine ink lines outline the crenellated round towers and rows of windows, and the foaming weir is left as bare white paper. Limestone gray, river blue, copper early autumn leaves and ivy green fill the palette, with white swans and spray as highlights. The castle spans the middle ground slightly right of center, the bridge sits on the left, and gray-roofed townhouses line the right bank. Green hills rise on the left under a pale sky. An orange streak drips down the left edge, with splatter around the border. "KILKENNY" is set in spaced navy capitals across the top.
Why you'll love it
- Swans at the weir. Two white swans and a group of ducks gather by the low weir.
- Ivy-clad castle walls. Green ivy climbs the gray stone of the castle.
- Rowboat on the Nore. A lone rower glides past walkers on the riverside stone wall.
- Made to order. Printed after you buy, colour-managed, never warehoused.
Sizes and materials
- Paper — archival matte, rolled and unframed. Thirteen sizes in all: 8" x 12" through 30" x 40", plus A4–A1.
- Matte canvas — stretched on a wooden bar, no glare, ready to hang. 12" x 16" to 30" x 40".
- Framed canvas — solid wood floating frame in white, black, espresso or natural. 12" x 16" to 30" x 40".
- Pigment-based archival inks, rated to resist fading for decades indoors.
Styling it at home
Gray stone, river blue and copper leaves pair well with a rustic living room, a study with dark wood or a hallway in warm neutrals. It is a heartfelt gift for someone with Irish roots or a memento of a trip around Ireland.
Shipping and care
Unframed prints ship rolled in a protective tube. Framed canvas arrives ready to hang. Keep prints out of direct sunlight to protect the colour, and dust canvas with a dry, soft cloth.
Questions people ask
Is this an exact view of Kilkenny? No. It is an artistic interpretation of Kilkenny, and some details, such as the castle's position and the hills around it, are simplified or rearranged for the composition.
What text is printed on it? Only the city name, "KILKENNY," set in spaced navy capitals across the top. There is no other lettering on the print.
Print & materials
Every design is made to order on one of three materials:
- Fine art paper — thick 200 gsm archival gallery-grade paper with a smooth matte finish, printed with fade-resistant pigment inks. The choice if you already own a frame.
- Matte canvas — gallery-wrapped over a solid wood stretcher, ready to hang straight out of the box. No glass, no glare.
- Framed canvas in white, black, espresso or natural wood — a slim solid-wood floating frame with the hanging hardware already fitted. Natural and espresso suit warm, timber-heavy rooms; white and black sit better in minimalist and monochrome spaces.
Sizes run from 8 x 12 inches up to large statement pieces, plus A4, A3, A2 and A1 for standard European frames. The exact sizes available for this design are listed in the Size menu above.

Materials
Three ways to print it.
Same artwork, same colour-managed printing — the material decides how it hangs and how much wall it holds.
Fine art paper
Thick 200 gsm archival gallery-grade paper with a smooth matte finish, printed with fade-resistant pigment inks.
- The most affordable option, and the one to pick if you already own a frame.
- Reads slightly softer than canvas.
- Ships rolled in a rigid tube.
Matte canvas
Gallery-wrapped over a solid wood stretcher, ready to hang straight out of the box.
- No glass, so no glare — good for bright rooms.
- Holds a touch more contrast than paper.
- Boxed with corner guards.
Framed canvas
A slim solid-wood floating frame with the hanging hardware already fitted, in white, black, espresso or natural wood.
- Natural and espresso suit warm, timber-heavy rooms.
- White and black sit better in minimalist and monochrome spaces.
- The usual choice for a feature wall — nothing to assemble.
