A Kathmandu travel poster seen from a rooftop above the great white stupa, with lines of prayer flags running out from the gilded spire towards every corner of the square. The brick plaza below is busy with walkers circling the dome, and the low roofs of the city stretch off to a soft ridge of hills.
About the artwork
The dome is the anchor: a broad white hemisphere shaded in pale blue-grey, ringed at the base by a stepped terrace with arched niches, and topped by a square gold tier and a tapering spire under a small parasol. Prayer flag strings radiate from the spire in flat blocks of red, yellow, blue, green and white. The plaza is warm terracotta brick in a fan pattern, with figures reduced to small strokes and ochre buildings edging the square. Lettering reads KATHMANDU above NEPAL.
Why you'll love it
- Warm terracotta brick against a cool white dome balances the print without one strong colour.
- The prayer flag lines create diagonals that keep a circular composition from feeling static.
- The elevated viewpoint keeps crowd, plaza and skyline all readable.
- A grounded, everyday scene rather than an empty postcard view.
Where it works at home
The brick foreground sits comfortably with warm neutrals, jute, wool or leather, and it does not need a bold wall. Its round central mass balances rectangular furniture, so it works above a low bookshelf, a bench or a chest of drawers rather than over a sofa. Oak follows the brick tone.
Sizes and materials
- Fine art paper — thick archival gallery-grade paper with a smooth matte finish, printed with fade-resistant pigment inks. The choice if you already own a frame.
- Matte canvas — gallery-wrapped over a solid wood stretcher, ready to hang straight out of the box. No glass, no glare.
- Framed canvas in white, black, espresso or natural wood — a slim solid-wood floating frame with the hanging hardware already fitted. Natural and espresso suit warm, timber-heavy rooms; white and black sit better in minimalist and monochrome spaces.
Thirteen sizes are available, from 8 x 12 inches up to a 30 x 40 inch statement piece, plus A4, A3, A2 and A1 for standard European frames. Every piece is made to order.
Shipping and care
Each piece is printed and finished after the order is placed, then shipped in protective packaging — paper prints rolled in a rigid tube, canvas and framed canvas boxed with corner guards. Keep the artwork out of direct sunlight and wipe framed canvas with a dry, soft cloth. Paper prints are best handled by the edges until they are framed.
Questions
Which material should I choose? Paper is the most affordable option and lets you pick your own frame. Matte canvas adds depth and needs no glass. Framed canvas arrives ready to hang and is the usual choice for a feature wall.
Will the colours match what I see on screen? Printing is colour-managed, so the artwork stays very close to the preview. Paper reads slightly softer than canvas, which holds a touch more contrast.
What are the coloured lines coming off the tower? They are strings of prayer flags, anchored at the top of the gilded spire and running down to the corners of the terrace. In the artwork they are simplified into repeating blocks of red, yellow, blue, green and white.
