A Jedediah Smith Redwoods poster that looks straight down a narrow trail in the Smith River old-growth, with two enormous coast redwood trunks framing the view like doorposts. Shafts of light slip through the canopy onto sword ferns and a pale ribbon of packed earth, and a small patch of blue sky with one white cloud shows far overhead.
About the artwork
This is a detailed, layered illustration rather than a flat vector design. The bark is built from long ribbons of rust, cinnamon and deep umber; the canopy from dozens of separate greens. The palette runs cinnamon brown, moss and pine green, a cool blue-grey haze in the middle distance, cream sunlight and a thin band of pale sky blue at the very top. Visible sunbeams cut diagonally through the mist between the trunks. Set in white capitals across the bottom: JEDEDIAH SMITH REDWOODS, with STATE PARK • CALIFORNIA beneath it. Portrait, 2:3.
Why you'll love it
- The northernmost redwood park — Jedediah Smith sits on the Smith River near Crescent City, the quietest of the big coast redwood parks.
- Light is the subject — the sunbeams through the canopy carry the image, not a single hero tree.
- Real depth — foreground bark, a mid-ground colonnade of trunks and blue haze behind give the print distance on a wall.
- Green that behaves like a neutral — the forest tones sit quietly beside wood, linen and warm white.
Sizes and materials
- Paper — archival matte, rolled and unframed. Nine sizes from 8" x 12" to 30" x 40", plus A4-A1 for European frames.
- Matte canvas — stretched on a wooden bar, no glare, ready to hang.
- Framed canvas — solid wood floating frame in white, black, espresso or natural.
- Pigment-based archival inks, rated to resist fading for decades indoors.
Styling it at home
The cinnamon bark and moss green read warm, so the print holds its own on clay, oatmeal or soft olive walls as easily as on plain white. It looks settled on a teak sideboard like the bedroom in the photographs above, where the dried pampas picks up the cream light in the canopy. In a room with a lot of black metal, the black floating frame tightens the whole thing up.
Shipping and care
Unframed prints ship rolled in a protective tube. Framed canvas arrives ready to hang. Keep prints out of direct sunlight to protect the colour, and dust canvas with a dry, soft cloth.
Questions people ask
What size should I get? Above a sideboard or a bed, 24" x 36" keeps the trunks reading at full scale. For a hallway or a gallery wall, 12" x 18" or 16" x 24" is easier to place. The tall 2:3 shape suits narrow wall sections between doors and windows.
Does it come framed? Paper and matte canvas ship unframed. The framed canvas option arrives in a solid wood floating frame in white, black, espresso or natural, wired and ready to hang.
What does the poster say? The lettering reads JEDEDIAH SMITH REDWOODS on the first line and STATE PARK • CALIFORNIA on the second, so the park designation is printed even though it is shortened in the product name.
How is this different from the other redwood prints? Each one shows a different grove and a different effect: this is the sunbeam-lit trail at Jedediah Smith, while the other California redwood prints in the shop focus on a hollow trunk, an avenue of roadside giants and separate old-growth basins.
Print & materials
Every design is made to order on one of three materials:
- Fine art paper — thick archival gallery-grade paper with a smooth matte finish, printed with fade-resistant pigment inks. The choice if you already own a frame.
- Matte canvas — gallery-wrapped over a solid wood stretcher, ready to hang straight out of the box. No glass, no glare.
- Framed canvas in white, black, espresso or natural wood — a slim solid-wood floating frame with the hanging hardware already fitted. Natural and espresso suit warm, timber-heavy rooms; white and black sit better in minimalist and monochrome spaces.
Sizes run from 8 x 12 inches up to large statement pieces, plus A4, A3, A2 and A1 for standard European frames. The exact sizes available for this design are listed in the Size menu above.

Three ways to print it.
Same artwork, same colour-managed printing — the material decides how it hangs and how much wall it holds.

Thick archival gallery-grade paper with a smooth matte finish, printed with fade-resistant pigment inks.
- The most affordable option, and the one to pick if you already own a frame.
- Reads slightly softer than canvas.
- Ships rolled in a rigid tube.
Matte canvas
Gallery-wrapped over a solid wood stretcher, ready to hang straight out of the box.
- No glass, so no glare — good for bright rooms.
- Holds a touch more contrast than paper.
- Boxed with corner guards.
Framed canvas
A slim solid-wood floating frame with the hanging hardware already fitted, in white, black, espresso or natural wood.
- Natural and espresso suit warm, timber-heavy rooms.
- White and black sit better in minimalist and monochrome spaces.
- The usual choice for a feature wall — nothing to assemble.
