This Itsukushima Shrine travel poster stands the vermilion gate alone in shallow water, four main legs and two braced side posts planted on the seabed while a clear turquoise tide runs around them. A dark wooded hill fills the space behind.
About the artwork
The most restrained design in the set: turquoise, sea green, cream and coral, with almost no black. The gate is flat coral-red under a curved dark green lintel and a smaller ridge beam, its timber grain suggested by a few vertical lines. The hillside behind is stippled in three greens under a bleached sky gradient, with a low pale shoreline at the waterline. The bottom two thirds is given entirely to fine white ripple lines over turquoise. HIROSHIMA is printed in white capitals with JAPAN below.
Why you'll love it
- Calm, wide-open composition with a lot of water, so a small wall feels less crowded.
- Coral against turquoise is a strong pair that still reads gentle rather than loud.
- Archival paper or gallery-wrapped canvas, printed with fade-resistant pigment inks.
- Thirteen sizes and four frame finishes, including ready-to-hang framed canvas.
Where it works at home
Sea colours make this a natural bathroom or bedroom piece, and it is one of the few designs here that works in a small room without dominating it. It also suits a coastal or Scandinavian scheme, where cream and turquoise pick up pale timber and linen.
Sizes and materials
- Fine art paper — thick archival gallery-grade paper with a smooth matte finish, printed with fade-resistant pigment inks. The choice if you already own a frame.
- Matte canvas — gallery-wrapped over a solid wood stretcher, ready to hang straight out of the box. No glass, no glare.
- Framed canvas in white, black, espresso or natural wood — a slim solid-wood floating frame with the hanging hardware already fitted. Natural and espresso suit warm, timber-heavy rooms; white and black sit better in minimalist and monochrome spaces.
Thirteen sizes are available, from 8 x 12 inches up to a 30 x 40 inch statement piece, plus A4, A3, A2 and A1 for standard European frames. Every piece is made to order.
Shipping and care
Each piece is printed and finished after the order is placed, then shipped in protective packaging — paper prints rolled in a rigid tube, canvas and framed canvas boxed with corner guards. Keep the artwork out of direct sunlight and wipe framed canvas with a dry, soft cloth. Paper prints are best handled by the edges until they are framed.
Questions
Which material should I choose? Paper is the most affordable option and lets you pick your own frame. Matte canvas adds depth and needs no glass. Framed canvas arrives ready to hang and is the usual choice for a feature wall.
Will the colours match what I see on screen? Printing is colour-managed, so the artwork stays very close to the preview. Paper reads slightly softer than canvas, which holds a touch more contrast.
Is the gate shown at high or low tide? It is drawn at a middle tide, with water covering the seabed and lapping around the base of all six posts, so the gate looks as though it is standing free on the surface. The lower legs stay visible, which is what gives the reflection its length. Daylight keeps the coral of the timber fully saturated.
