This Inverness watercolor print shows the red sandstone Inverness Castle on its grassy hill above the wide River Ness, with the twin square towers of St Andrew's Cathedral on the far bank. It is an artistic, watercolor-style interpretation of Inverness, not an exact view of the city.
About the artwork
Thin ink lines outline the castle and the cathedral, and the river is laid in loose blue washes with streaks of bare white paper for light. Blues and greens lead the palette, warmed by pinkish sandstone and accented with heather purple. The castle sits in the upper left, a white suspension footbridge crosses the middle ground, and the river runs diagonally toward the lower right. Behind it, blue-violet Highland hills rise under a soft sky, and the blooming heather sets the scene in late summer. Purple and yellow drips run from the lower left corner, and splatter dots circle the white border. "INVERNESS" is set in spaced navy capitals across the top.
Why you'll love it
- Anglers in the river. Three fishermen in waders stand mid-stream in the River Ness.
- Heather in bloom. Clumps of purple heather fill the lower left and the hillside.
- Footbridge and lamps. A white suspension bridge and iron lampposts line the riverside path.
- Made to order. Printed after you buy, colour-managed, never warehoused.
Sizes and materials
- Paper — archival matte, rolled and unframed. Thirteen sizes in all: 8" x 12" through 30" x 40", plus A4–A1.
- Matte canvas — stretched on a wooden bar, no glare, ready to hang. 12" x 16" to 30" x 40".
- Framed canvas — solid wood floating frame in white, black, espresso or natural. 12" x 16" to 30" x 40".
- Pigment-based archival inks, rated to resist fading for decades indoors.
Styling it at home
Its river blues, fresh greens and heather purple suit a bedroom, reading nook or hallway with cool or neutral walls. Give it to someone with Highland roots or as a keepsake from a Scotland road trip.
Shipping and care
Unframed prints ship rolled in a protective tube. Framed canvas arrives ready to hang. Keep prints out of direct sunlight to protect the colour, and dust canvas with a dry, soft cloth.
Questions people ask
Is this an exact view of Inverness? No. It is an artistic interpretation of Inverness in a watercolor style, painted to capture the feel of the riverside rather than a precise map of it.
What text is printed on it? Only the city name, "INVERNESS," set in spaced navy capitals across the top. There is no other lettering on the print.
Print & materials
Every design is made to order on one of three materials:
- Fine art paper — thick 200 gsm archival gallery-grade paper with a smooth matte finish, printed with fade-resistant pigment inks. The choice if you already own a frame.
- Matte canvas — gallery-wrapped over a solid wood stretcher, ready to hang straight out of the box. No glass, no glare.
- Framed canvas in white, black, espresso or natural wood — a slim solid-wood floating frame with the hanging hardware already fitted. Natural and espresso suit warm, timber-heavy rooms; white and black sit better in minimalist and monochrome spaces.
Sizes run from 8 x 12 inches up to large statement pieces, plus A4, A3, A2 and A1 for standard European frames. The exact sizes available for this design are listed in the Size menu above.

Materials
Three ways to print it.
Same artwork, same colour-managed printing — the material decides how it hangs and how much wall it holds.
Fine art paper
Thick 200 gsm archival gallery-grade paper with a smooth matte finish, printed with fade-resistant pigment inks.
- The most affordable option, and the one to pick if you already own a frame.
- Reads slightly softer than canvas.
- Ships rolled in a rigid tube.
Matte canvas
Gallery-wrapped over a solid wood stretcher, ready to hang straight out of the box.
- No glass, so no glare — good for bright rooms.
- Holds a touch more contrast than paper.
- Boxed with corner guards.
Framed canvas
A slim solid-wood floating frame with the hanging hardware already fitted, in white, black, espresso or natural wood.
- Natural and espresso suit warm, timber-heavy rooms.
- White and black sit better in minimalist and monochrome spaces.
- The usual choice for a feature wall — nothing to assemble.
