A Halifax travel poster taken from the top of Citadel Hill looking down: long mown slopes running away in the foreground, the star-shaped ramparts of the fort below them, and beyond that the downtown towers, the harbour and the Dartmouth shore on the far side.
About the artwork
Three clean bands, and the front one takes almost half the print. The glacis is drawn in raked strokes of lime, olive and deep bottle green that follow the fall of the ground, so the slope reads as mown grass rather than as a flat shape. The fort below is picked out in earth-toned earthworks and small white buildings with its own clock tower; the city is compressed into a tight strip of pale towers, and the harbour and the Atlantic behind it are a flat, saturated navy. The sky is a single cerulean band. Title in white capitals, HALIFAX above CANADA. Portrait, 2:3.
Why you'll love it
- Green, not grey. The hill dominates the print, so it hangs like a landscape rather than a city poster.
- The fort read as a shape. From above, the Citadel's star plan is obvious — something you never see from the street.
- Atlantic navy. The dark harbour band gives the print a weight that the pale city strip alone could not.
- East coast roots. Maritimes families, Dalhousie and King's alumni, anyone who walked up that hill for the noon gun.
Sizes and materials
- Paper — archival matte, rolled and unframed. Nine sizes from 8" x 12" to 30" x 40", plus A4-A1 for European frames.
- Matte canvas — stretched on a wooden bar, no glare, ready to hang.
- Framed canvas — solid wood floating frame in white, black, espresso or natural.
- Pigment-based archival inks, rated to resist fading for decades indoors.
Styling it at home
Green and navy is a traditional pairing, which is why this one suits older rooms: panelled walls, a study, a hallway with dark wood. On cream it looks classic; on white it looks sharper and more modern. Walnut and espresso frames are the natural choice. It also pairs neatly with any of the coastal prints in the series, since the harbour navy repeats.
Shipping and care
Unframed prints ship rolled in a protective tube. Framed canvas arrives ready to hang. Keep prints out of direct sunlight to protect the colour, and dust canvas with a dry, soft cloth.
Questions people ask
What size should I get? Above a console or desk, 12" x 18" or 16" x 24". Above a sofa, bed or mantel, go 24" x 36" or larger so the print holds the wall.
Does it come framed? Paper and matte canvas ship unframed and fit standard frames. The framed canvas option arrives in a solid wood floating frame in white, black, espresso or natural.
What is the star-shaped structure? The Halifax Citadel, the star-plan fort on the hill above downtown Halifax, with the harbour and Dartmouth beyond it.
Print & materials
Every design is made to order on one of three materials:
- Fine art paper — thick archival gallery-grade paper with a smooth matte finish, printed with fade-resistant pigment inks. The choice if you already own a frame.
- Matte canvas — gallery-wrapped over a solid wood stretcher, ready to hang straight out of the box. No glass, no glare.
- Framed canvas in white, black, espresso or natural wood — a slim solid-wood floating frame with the hanging hardware already fitted. Natural and espresso suit warm, timber-heavy rooms; white and black sit better in minimalist and monochrome spaces.
Sizes run from 8 x 12 inches up to large statement pieces, plus A4, A3, A2 and A1 for standard European frames. The exact sizes available for this design are listed in the Size menu above.

Materials
Three ways to print it.
Same artwork, same colour-managed printing — the material decides how it hangs and how much wall it holds.
Fine art paper
Thick archival gallery-grade paper with a smooth matte finish, printed with fade-resistant pigment inks.
- The most affordable option, and the one to pick if you already own a frame.
- Reads slightly softer than canvas.
- Ships rolled in a rigid tube.
Matte canvas
Gallery-wrapped over a solid wood stretcher, ready to hang straight out of the box.
- No glass, so no glare — good for bright rooms.
- Holds a touch more contrast than paper.
- Boxed with corner guards.
Framed canvas
A slim solid-wood floating frame with the hanging hardware already fitted, in white, black, espresso or natural wood.
- Natural and espresso suit warm, timber-heavy rooms.
- White and black sit better in minimalist and monochrome spaces.
- The usual choice for a feature wall — nothing to assemble.
