A Gwaii Haanas poster from inside the forest: a line of weathered Haida poles standing among moss and young spruce, immense old-growth trunks framing both edges, and the sheltered water of the coast opening out beyond the trees.
About the artwork
A quiet, green print with a great deal of texture in it. The two foreground trunks are drawn bark plate by bark plate and run the full height of the sheet, and the light falls in a soft diagonal through the canopy so the forest floor is dappled rather than evenly lit. The poles are painted as aged cedar — split, silvered, softened by time and weather, with the carved forms still legible on the nearest one. Beyond the treeline the inlet is a pale sea-green with low forested islands fading into mist.
The layout is the Canadian park service sheet used across this series: cream border, small dark capitals along the top reading BRITISH COLUMBIA · 52.39° N, 131.41° W · EST 1988, and GWAII HAANAS at the foot in heavy condensed type over NATIONAL PARK, with the Parks Canada wordmark and beaver roundel. Portrait, 2:3.
Why you'll love it
- A living cultural landscape. Gwaii Haanas is co-managed by the Haida Nation and Parks Canada, and the poles are left standing to weather as they were meant to.
- Old growth drawn as old growth. The scale of the trunks is the point, and the print gives them the full height of the sheet.
- Green on green. Moss, cedar and sea-green water, with almost no other colour — restful rather than dramatic.
- Coordinates on the sheet. 52.39° N, 131.41° W, established 1988.
Sizes and materials
- Paper — archival matte, rolled and unframed. Nine sizes from 8" x 12" to 30" x 40", plus A4-A1 for European frames.
- Matte canvas — stretched on a wooden bar, no glare, ready to hang.
- Framed canvas — solid wood floating frame in white, black, espresso or natural.
- Pigment-based archival inks, rated to resist fading for decades indoors.
Styling it at home
Deep forest green needs light around it: warm white or bone walls and a room with daylight. Natural oak frames suit the cedar; black frames make it read heavier. It is a strong hallway or study print, and it hangs particularly well beside plants — the whole picture is foliage.
Shipping and care
Unframed prints ship rolled in a protective tube. Framed canvas arrives ready to hang. Keep prints out of direct sunlight to protect the colour, and dust canvas with a dry, soft cloth.
Questions people ask
What size should I get? Above a console or desk, 12" x 18" or 16" x 24". Above a sofa, bed or mantel, go 24" x 36" or larger so the print holds the wall.
Does it come framed? Paper and matte canvas ship unframed and fit standard frames. The framed canvas option arrives in a solid wood floating frame in white, black, espresso or natural.
Where is Gwaii Haanas? On Haida Gwaii, the archipelago off the north coast of British Columbia. The banner along the top gives the reserve's coordinates and its founding year, 1988.
Print & materials
Every design is made to order on one of three materials:
- Fine art paper — thick archival gallery-grade paper with a smooth matte finish, printed with fade-resistant pigment inks. The choice if you already own a frame.
- Matte canvas — gallery-wrapped over a solid wood stretcher, ready to hang straight out of the box. No glass, no glare.
- Framed canvas in white, black, espresso or natural wood — a slim solid-wood floating frame with the hanging hardware already fitted. Natural and espresso suit warm, timber-heavy rooms; white and black sit better in minimalist and monochrome spaces.
Sizes run from 8 x 12 inches up to large statement pieces, plus A4, A3, A2 and A1 for standard European frames. The exact sizes available for this design are listed in the Size menu above.

Three ways to print it.
Same artwork, same colour-managed printing — the material decides how it hangs and how much wall it holds.

Thick archival gallery-grade paper with a smooth matte finish, printed with fade-resistant pigment inks.
- The most affordable option, and the one to pick if you already own a frame.
- Reads slightly softer than canvas.
- Ships rolled in a rigid tube.
Matte canvas
Gallery-wrapped over a solid wood stretcher, ready to hang straight out of the box.
- No glass, so no glare — good for bright rooms.
- Holds a touch more contrast than paper.
- Boxed with corner guards.
Framed canvas
A slim solid-wood floating frame with the hanging hardware already fitted, in white, black, espresso or natural wood.
- Natural and espresso suit warm, timber-heavy rooms.
- White and black sit better in minimalist and monochrome spaces.
- The usual choice for a feature wall — nothing to assemble.
