This Evanston watercolor print shows Grosse Point Lighthouse on the Lake Michigan shore, looking south along the beach toward the Northwestern University campus and the Chicago skyline. It is a watercolor-style interpretation of the Illinois lakefront city, not an exact view.
About the artwork
Blue and turquoise washes cover the lake, with foam on the waves left as white paper. Fine brown ink outlines the lighthouse, its black iron lantern, the brick keepers' houses, a wooden fence and sailboats. The cream lighthouse stands tall on the right, the curving beach and a stone breakwater lead toward the Northwestern campus with a Gothic stone tower, and the Chicago skyline sits on the horizon at left. Beach grass, a fence and small waves fill the high-summer foreground. Lake blue and turquoise lead the palette, with sandy beige, cream, brick red and green. "EVANSTON" is set in spaced navy capitals across the top.
Why you'll love it
- Cream lighthouse. The tall tapering tower and black lantern stand out against blue water and sky.
- Skyline on the horizon. Chicago's towers appear across the water, linking Evanston to the city.
- Summer beach day. Swimmers, sailboats, beach walkers and a blue umbrella fill the shoreline.
- Made to order. Printed after you buy, colour-managed, never warehoused.
Sizes and materials
- Paper — archival matte, rolled and unframed. Thirteen sizes in all: 8" x 12" through 30" x 40", plus A4–A1.
- Matte canvas — stretched on a wooden bar, no glare, ready to hang. 12" x 16" to 30" x 40".
- Framed canvas — solid wood floating frame in white, black, espresso or natural. 12" x 16" to 30" x 40".
- Pigment-based archival inks, rated to resist fading for decades indoors.
Styling it at home
Blue, turquoise and sandy beige suit a coastal-style living room, a bathroom or a kid's room with white furniture. It makes a fine gift for a Northwestern graduate, a North Shore family or anyone who loves Lake Michigan summers.
Shipping and care
Unframed prints ship rolled in a protective tube. Framed canvas arrives ready to hang. Keep prints out of direct sunlight to protect the colour, and dust canvas with a dry, soft cloth.
Questions people ask
Is this an exact view of Evanston? No. It is an artistic interpretation of the Evanston shoreline, and distances, such as how close the Chicago skyline looks, are simplified for the composition.
What text is printed on it? Only the name "EVANSTON," set in spaced navy capitals across the top. There is no other lettering on the print.
Print & materials
Every design is made to order on one of three materials:
- Fine art paper — thick 200 gsm archival gallery-grade paper with a smooth matte finish, printed with fade-resistant pigment inks. The choice if you already own a frame.
- Matte canvas — gallery-wrapped over a solid wood stretcher, ready to hang straight out of the box. No glass, no glare.
- Framed canvas in white, black, espresso or natural wood — a slim solid-wood floating frame with the hanging hardware already fitted. Natural and espresso suit warm, timber-heavy rooms; white and black sit better in minimalist and monochrome spaces.
Sizes run from 8 x 12 inches up to large statement pieces, plus A4, A3, A2 and A1 for standard European frames. The exact sizes available for this design are listed in the Size menu above.

Materials
Three ways to print it.
Same artwork, same colour-managed printing — the material decides how it hangs and how much wall it holds.
Fine art paper
Thick 200 gsm archival gallery-grade paper with a smooth matte finish, printed with fade-resistant pigment inks.
- The most affordable option, and the one to pick if you already own a frame.
- Reads slightly softer than canvas.
- Ships rolled in a rigid tube.
Matte canvas
Gallery-wrapped over a solid wood stretcher, ready to hang straight out of the box.
- No glass, so no glare — good for bright rooms.
- Holds a touch more contrast than paper.
- Boxed with corner guards.
Framed canvas
A slim solid-wood floating frame with the hanging hardware already fitted, in white, black, espresso or natural wood.
- Natural and espresso suit warm, timber-heavy rooms.
- White and black sit better in minimalist and monochrome spaces.
- The usual choice for a feature wall — nothing to assemble.
