This Durango, Colorado watercolor print shows a black narrow-gauge steam locomotive pulling yellow coaches beside the Animas River, with the San Juan Mountains behind. It is an artistic, watercolor-style interpretation of Durango, Colorado, not an exact view of the city.
About the artwork
Fine ink lines detail the locomotive's smokestack, brass bell and headlamp along with the steel truss bridge, and the steam is a soft gray-white wash with bare paper showing through. Golden aspens and mustard-yellow coaches stand against red sandstone cliffs and a blue river and mountains, accented by the black engine and orange-red fall shrubs. The train runs from the left toward the center with its white plume in the upper third, red sandstone cliffs and pines rise behind on the left, and a red-brick town with a tower and the bridge sits on the right. The rocky Animas River and golden brush fill the foreground, the snowy San Juan Mountains close the view, and it is early fall. "DURANGO" is set in spaced navy capitals across the top.
Why you'll love it
- Steam and passengers. Passengers wave from the yellow coaches as a white plume rises from the engine.
- River rafters. A raft of people in orange jackets runs the rapids below the train.
- Angler on a boulder. A fly angler casts from a rock in the river near the truss bridge.
- Made to order. Printed after you buy, colour-managed, never warehoused.

- Paper — archival matte, rolled and unframed. Thirteen sizes in all: 8" x 12" through 30" x 40", plus A4–A1.

- Pigment-based archival inks, rated to resist fading for decades indoors.
Styling it at home
Gold, rust and river blue suit a rustic living room, a den with leather and wood, or a train lover's study. It makes a good gift for a rail fan or anyone who rafted or rode the rails in southwest Colorado.
Shipping and care
Unframed prints ship rolled in a protective tube. Framed canvas arrives ready to hang. Keep prints out of direct sunlight to protect the colour, and dust canvas with a dry, soft cloth.
Questions people ask
Is this an exact view of Durango, Colorado? No. It is an artistic interpretation that brings the train, the river, the town and the mountains together in one fall scene.
What text is printed on it? Only the city name, "DURANGO," set in spaced navy capitals across the top. There is no other lettering on the print.
Print & materials
Every design is made to order on one of three materials:
- Fine art paper — thick 200 gsm archival gallery-grade paper with a smooth matte finish, printed with fade-resistant pigment inks. The choice if you already own a frame.
- Matte canvas — gallery-wrapped over a solid wood stretcher, ready to hang straight out of the box. No glass, no glare.
- Framed canvas in white, black, espresso or natural wood — a slim solid-wood floating frame with the hanging hardware already fitted. Natural and espresso suit warm, timber-heavy rooms; white and black sit better in minimalist and monochrome spaces.
Sizes run from 8 x 12 inches up to large statement pieces, plus A4, A3, A2 and A1 for standard European frames. The exact sizes available for this design are listed in the Size menu above.
