A Crystal Cove State Park poster looking down the cove from the boardwalk, past the row of old clapboard cottages with their red shingle roofs, wooden stairs and porches. The sand runs out in a long pale curve, three or four lines of turquoise surf peel in from the right, and a sandstone bluff steps down to the water where the coast bends away toward the haze.
About the artwork
A painterly illustration with a lot of built detail — individual shingles, window frames, handrails and deck posts are all picked out rather than simplified into flat shapes. The cottages read in chalk white, sea-glass blue and weathered grey against oxide-red roofs and one brick chimney; the water grades from deep teal through jade to a foam white, and the beach is warm sand and buff. Palms and dark green scrub sit behind the houses, blue-grey ice plant fills the lower left, and towering cream cumulus takes up the top half of the sheet. In white capitals at the base: CRYSTAL COVE, with STATE PARK·CALIFORNIA below. Portrait, 2:3.
Why you'll love it
- Cottages, not just coastline — the 1930s beach colony is what makes this cove different from every other Southern California beach.
- Real surf lines — the waves are drawn as separate breaking sets rather than a single decorative curl.
- Sea-glass palette — pale blue siding, oxide roofs and jade water, warm enough to avoid the usual cold coastal blue.
- A viewpoint you can stand in — the boardwalk rail in the corner puts you on the path down to the sand.
Sizes and materials
- Paper — archival matte, rolled and unframed. Nine sizes from 8" x 12" to 30" x 40", plus A4-A1 for European frames.
- Matte canvas — stretched on a wooden bar, no glare, ready to hang.
- Framed canvas — solid wood floating frame in white, black, espresso or natural.
- Pigment-based archival inks, rated to resist fading for decades indoors.
Styling it at home
The sand and cloud keep this one light, so it works on almost any pale wall and looks particularly good on soft white or a pale sea-blue. White framing leans into the cottage siding and suits a bathroom or a bedroom; natural oak, as in the room photographs above, picks up the beach tones in a living room. Rattan, cotton and a little unfinished wood suit it better than anything polished.
Shipping and care
Unframed prints ship rolled in a protective tube. Framed canvas arrives ready to hang. Keep prints out of direct sunlight to protect the colour, and dust canvas with a dry, soft cloth.
Questions people ask
What size should I get? The cottage detail is small in the frame, so 18" x 27" upward is where the windows and railings read properly. Over a sofa or bed, 24" x 36" or 30" x 40". For a bathroom, 12" x 18" still works as a colour piece.
Does it come framed? Paper prints and matte canvas ship unframed. Framed canvas is a separate material option with a solid wood floating frame in white, black, espresso or natural.
What are the cottages in the picture? They are the Crystal Cove Historic District, a preserved seaside colony of about forty cottages built between the 1920s and 1940s, on the coast between Newport Beach and Laguna Beach.
Print & materials
Every design is made to order on one of three materials:
- Fine art paper — thick archival gallery-grade paper with a smooth matte finish, printed with fade-resistant pigment inks. The choice if you already own a frame.
- Matte canvas — gallery-wrapped over a solid wood stretcher, ready to hang straight out of the box. No glass, no glare.
- Framed canvas in white, black, espresso or natural wood — a slim solid-wood floating frame with the hanging hardware already fitted. Natural and espresso suit warm, timber-heavy rooms; white and black sit better in minimalist and monochrome spaces.
Sizes run from 8 x 12 inches up to large statement pieces, plus A4, A3, A2 and A1 for standard European frames. The exact sizes available for this design are listed in the Size menu above.

Three ways to print it.
Same artwork, same colour-managed printing — the material decides how it hangs and how much wall it holds.

Thick archival gallery-grade paper with a smooth matte finish, printed with fade-resistant pigment inks.
- The most affordable option, and the one to pick if you already own a frame.
- Reads slightly softer than canvas.
- Ships rolled in a rigid tube.
Matte canvas
Gallery-wrapped over a solid wood stretcher, ready to hang straight out of the box.
- No glass, so no glare — good for bright rooms.
- Holds a touch more contrast than paper.
- Boxed with corner guards.
Framed canvas
A slim solid-wood floating frame with the hanging hardware already fitted, in white, black, espresso or natural wood.
- Natural and espresso suit warm, timber-heavy rooms.
- White and black sit better in minimalist and monochrome spaces.
