A Colorado Bend State Park poster built around Gorman Falls, the spring-fed cascade on the Colorado River in the Texas Hill Country. Water threads down a tall cream travertine face that is still growing under a coat of moss and maidenhair fern, then spills over limestone ledges into a shallow turquoise pool. Hardwood canopy closes overhead, and cumulus clouds pile up in the gap of blue sky at the left.
About the artwork
Painterly illustration with layered, hand-cut foliage rather than flat vector shapes. The palette is dominated by greens — olive, moss, deep forest and a bright fern highlight — set against the warm bone and buff of the travertine mound and the pale aqua of the pool. Cool shadow blues sit under the overhang where the water starts, and the clouds are painted in cream and dove grey against a mid-blue sky. Fan-shaped sotol and ferns fill the lower left corner. In white capitals across the base: COLORADO BEND, with STATE PARK · TEXAS beneath it. Portrait, 2:3.
Why you'll love it
- A Texas nobody expects — mossy limestone and a jade pool, not scrub and sky.
- Living rock — the travertine face in this scene is formed by the water itself, and the illustration shows its draped, dripping texture.
- Green that reads as calm — six or seven distinct greens carry the composition without any of them shouting.
- Vertical drop, vertical print — the 2:3 format follows the fall from canopy to pool in one movement.
Sizes and materials
- Paper — archival matte, rolled and unframed. Nine sizes from 8" x 12" to 30" x 40", plus A4-A1 for European frames.
- Matte canvas — stretched on a wooden bar, no glare, ready to hang.
- Framed canvas — solid wood floating frame in white, black, espresso or natural.
- Pigment-based archival inks, rated to resist fading for decades indoors.
Styling it at home
The greens are deep and slightly cool, so this one holds up against a warm white, a soft sage or even a darker olive wall rather than needing brightness around it. Oak framing echoes the buff travertine, as in the room photographs above; a black frame pushes the pool colour forward. It works well in a bathroom or bedroom where the aqua reads as restful, and it pairs naturally with linen, rattan and unglazed ceramic.
Shipping and care
Unframed prints ship rolled in a protective tube. Framed canvas arrives ready to hang. Keep prints out of direct sunlight to protect the colour, and dust canvas with a dry, soft cloth.
Questions people ask
What size should I get? The waterfall has a lot of fine foliage detail, so 18" x 27" and up rewards a closer look. Above a bed or sofa, go to 24" x 36" or 30" x 40". For a small bathroom or stairwell, 12" x 18" still reads clearly.
Does it come framed? Paper prints and matte canvas ship unframed. Framed canvas is a separate material option with a solid wood floating frame in white, black, espresso or natural.
Is this the same as Big Bend or Brazos Bend? No. Colorado Bend State Park is in the Hill Country near Bend, west of Lampasas, on the Colorado River. Big Bend Ranch is desert country in far West Texas and Brazos Bend is coastal-plain bottomland southwest of Houston. Three different parks, three different landscapes.
Print & materials
Every design is made to order on one of three materials:
- Fine art paper — thick archival gallery-grade paper with a smooth matte finish, printed with fade-resistant pigment inks. The choice if you already own a frame.
- Matte canvas — gallery-wrapped over a solid wood stretcher, ready to hang straight out of the box. No glass, no glare.
- Framed canvas in white, black, espresso or natural wood — a slim solid-wood floating frame with the hanging hardware already fitted. Natural and espresso suit warm, timber-heavy rooms; white and black sit better in minimalist and monochrome spaces.
Sizes run from 8 x 12 inches up to large statement pieces, plus A4, A3, A2 and A1 for standard European frames. The exact sizes available for this design are listed in the Size menu above.
