This Christchurch New Zealand travel poster catches a burnt-orange heritage tram rolling down a wide paved street on a still, sunny morning. Behind it runs a terrace of pastel shopfronts in pink, butter yellow, mint and powder blue, with cafe tables and umbrellas on the left and a grey modern tower rising further down the block.
About the artwork
A flat vector travel-poster illustration built from clean geometric shapes and soft, even light rather than heavy shading. The palette pairs a warm terracotta-orange tram and sand-toned paving against a wide pale blue sky, with the shopfront row supplying coral pink, butter yellow, mint, powder blue and cream. Steel tram rails and a single overhead wire cut long diagonals across the composition, pulling the eye from the empty foreground paving up to the buildings. Across the top the poster prints CHRISTCHURCH in tall white capitals, with NEW ZEALAND centred beneath. A clean white margin frames all four sides. Portrait, 2:3.
Why you'll love it
- One warm focal point. The orange tram sits dead centre against cool blues, so the print has an obvious subject from across the room.
- Pastels that stay calm. The candy-coloured shopfronts are muted rather than loud, which keeps the piece easy to live with.
- Architecture and street life together. Ornate gabled facades, cafe chairs and a modern tower place the city in one frame.
- A city print for people who dislike skylines. It works at street level, on foot, not from a helicopter.
Sizes and materials
- Paper — archival matte, rolled and unframed. Nine sizes from 8" x 12" to 30" x 40", plus A4–A1 for European frames.
- Matte canvas — stretched on a wooden bar, no glare, ready to hang.
- Framed canvas — solid wood floating frame in white, black, espresso or natural.
- Pigment-based archival inks, rated to resist fading for decades indoors.
Styling it at home
The sky blue and sand paving keep this light, so it lifts a chalky white, dove grey or pale blush wall rather than weighing it down. A black frame sharpens the pastels; light oak softens them. The burnt-orange tram is a natural partner for a rust or terracotta cushion, which is why it looks at home above the cream sofa in the tropical-plant photograph, and it suits a kitchen, a hallway or a home office over a wooden desk.
Shipping and care
Unframed prints ship rolled in a protective tube. Framed canvas arrives ready to hang. Keep prints out of direct sunlight to protect the colour, and dust canvas with a dry, soft cloth.
Questions people ask
What size should I get? Above a sofa or a bed, 24" x 36" or 30" x 40" holds the wall. For a gallery grid or a desk shelf, 12" x 18" and 16" x 24" sit comfortably. A2 and A3 fit standard European frames.
Does it come framed? Paper and matte canvas ship unframed. Framed canvas arrives in a solid wood floating frame in white, black, espresso or natural, ready to hang.
Can you read the shop signs? No. The shopfronts are drawn as flat colour and ornament with no lettering, so nothing dates the scene or distracts from the tram.
Print & materials
Every design is made to order on one of three materials:
- Fine art paper — thick 200 gsm archival gallery-grade paper with a smooth matte finish, printed with fade-resistant pigment inks. The choice if you already own a frame.
- Matte canvas — gallery-wrapped over a solid wood stretcher, ready to hang straight out of the box. No glass, no glare.
- Framed canvas in white, black, espresso or natural wood — a slim solid-wood floating frame with the hanging hardware already fitted. Natural and espresso suit warm, timber-heavy rooms; white and black sit better in minimalist and monochrome spaces.
Sizes run from 8 x 12 inches up to large statement pieces, plus A4, A3, A2 and A1 for standard European frames. The exact sizes available for this design are listed in the Size menu above.

- The most affordable option, and the one to pick if you already own a frame.
- Reads slightly softer than canvas.
- Ships rolled in a rigid tube.
Matte canvas
Gallery-wrapped over a solid wood stretcher, ready to hang straight out of the box.
- No glass, so no glare — good for bright rooms.
- Holds a touch more contrast than paper.
- Boxed with corner guards.
Framed canvas
A slim solid-wood floating frame with the hanging hardware already fitted, in white, black, espresso or natural wood.
- Natural and espresso suit warm, timber-heavy rooms.
- White and black sit better in minimalist and monochrome spaces.
- The usual choice for a feature wall — nothing to assemble.
