A Chimney Bluffs State Park poster looking west along the Lake Ontario shore: rust-red clay bluffs cut into sharp free-standing spires, spruce and cedar holding on at the top edge, a grey cobble beach strewn with bleached driftwood in the foreground, and pale turquoise water running out to a flat horizon.
About the artwork
Dense illustrative painting with hard-edged forms and heavy internal shading, so the bluff face reads as gullied clay rather than solid rock. Colour runs terracotta, brick and dusty rose through the eroded faces, near-black green in the conifers, and a wide range of blues in the lake, from steel and slate offshore to milky aquamarine in the shallows. Foreground stones are grey and slate blue; the driftwood is bone and pale grey. Gulls are marked into a blue sky behind piled white cumulus. Type reads CHIMNEY BLUFFS in white capitals with STATE PARK • NEW YORK below. Portrait, 2:3.
Why you'll love it
- Drumlin geology you can see — these spires are glacial clay being cut away by the lake, which is why they look nothing like a normal cliff.
- Upstate, not the city — a Great Lakes shoreline in Wayne County, for people who know New York beyond the five boroughs.
- Rust against turquoise — the strongest colour pairing in the print, and the reason it holds a wall from across a room.
- Foreground you can walk into — the driftwood and cobbles put you on the beach rather than at a viewpoint.
Sizes and materials
- Paper — archival matte, rolled and unframed. Nine sizes from 8" x 12" to 30" x 40", plus A4-A1 for European frames.
- Matte canvas — stretched on a wooden bar, no glare, ready to hang.
- Framed canvas — solid wood floating frame in white, black, espresso or natural.
- Pigment-based archival inks, rated to resist fading for decades indoors.
Styling it at home
Terracotta and turquoise are a warm-cool pair, so this print does well on a plain white or soft grey wall where neither has to compete. Natural oak framing echoes the driftwood; white framing pushes the lake forward. It sits comfortably above a cream sofa, as in the room shots above, and pairs with linen, jute and unglazed clay rather than anything glossy.
Shipping and care
Unframed prints ship rolled in a protective tube. Framed canvas arrives ready to hang. Keep prints out of direct sunlight to protect the colour, and dust canvas with a dry, soft cloth.
Questions people ask
What size should I get? 24" x 36" over a sofa or bed lets the spires and the driftwood both read. For a narrow wall or a pair with another lake print, 12" x 18" or 16" x 24" works well.
Does it come framed? Paper and matte canvas ship unframed. The framed canvas option arrives in a solid wood floating frame in white, black, espresso or natural, wired and ready to hang.
Is this Chimney Rock in North Carolina? No. Chimney Bluffs is a lakeshore park in upstate New York, where wave action carves glacial clay into pinnacles. Chimney Rock State Park in North Carolina is a granite monolith in the mountains and is a separate print in the shop.
What does the poster say? CHIMNEY BLUFFS in large white capitals, with STATE PARK • NEW YORK on a smaller line beneath.
Print & materials
Every design is made to order on one of three materials:
- Fine art paper — thick archival gallery-grade paper with a smooth matte finish, printed with fade-resistant pigment inks. The choice if you already own a frame.
- Matte canvas — gallery-wrapped over a solid wood stretcher, ready to hang straight out of the box. No glass, no glare.
- Framed canvas in white, black, espresso or natural wood — a slim solid-wood floating frame with the hanging hardware already fitted. Natural and espresso suit warm, timber-heavy rooms; white and black sit better in minimalist and monochrome spaces.
Sizes run from 8 x 12 inches up to large statement pieces, plus A4, A3, A2 and A1 for standard European frames. The exact sizes available for this design are listed in the Size menu above.
