About the artwork

The most detailed print in the Canada set. Drawn with a fine, illustrative line rather than pure flat shapes: individual dormers, chimneys and window rows are picked out across the whole facade, and the trees on the escarpment are stippled leaf by leaf. The palette pairs oxidised copper green with warm terracotta brick, over a soft mint-teal sky with a tall bank of cream cumulus building on the right. Along the waterfront the Lower Town houses carry their own colours — ochre, brick red, slate blue, mint — which is what keeps the lower third alive under such a large building.
