This Charleston, West Virginia watercolor print shows the gold-domed West Virginia State Capitol across the Kanawha River, with a sternwheel riverboat in front. It is an artistic, watercolor-style interpretation of the capital city, not an exact view.
About the artwork
Thin ink lines mark the ribs of the dome, the columns and the windows, and the dome is washed in warm gold with bare paper left for highlights. The palette is turquoise river water, forest green ridges and cream stone, accented by gold, the boat's red paddlewheel and red-brick Victorian houses. The capitol sits at the center, viewed from the south bank, with its long colonnaded wings stretching to each side. The river runs across the lower half, the East End historic district with a church steeple sits on the right, and Appalachian ridges rise behind. It is late spring, and drips and splatter dissolve the edges into the white border. "CHARLESTON" is set in spaced navy capitals across the top.
Why you'll love it
- Golden dome reflection. The gold dome's reflection shimmers down the turquoise water.
- Sternwheeler on the Kanawha. A white sternwheel boat flying an American flag turns its red paddlewheel near two rowing crews.
- Appalachian backdrop. Layered green and violet ridges wrap around the city.
- Made to order. Printed after you buy, colour-managed, never warehoused.

Styling it at home
Teal, green and gold work well in a living room, study or lake-house space with natural wood and cream textiles. It is a meaningful gift for someone who grew up in the Kanawha Valley or moved away from West Virginia.
Shipping and care
Unframed prints ship rolled in a protective tube. Framed canvas arrives ready to hang. Keep prints out of direct sunlight to protect the colour, and dust canvas with a dry, soft cloth.
Questions people ask
Is this an exact view of Charleston, West Virginia? No. It is an artistic interpretation of the capitol and riverfront, painted in a loose watercolor-and-ink style rather than as an exact view.
What text is printed on it? Only the name "CHARLESTON," set in spaced navy capitals across the top. There is no other lettering on the print.
Print & materials
Every design is made to order on one of three materials:
- Fine art paper — thick 200 gsm archival gallery-grade paper with a smooth matte finish, printed with fade-resistant pigment inks. The choice if you already own a frame.
- Matte canvas — gallery-wrapped over a solid wood stretcher, ready to hang straight out of the box. No glass, no glare.
- Framed canvas in white, black, espresso or natural wood — a slim solid-wood floating frame with the hanging hardware already fitted. Natural and espresso suit warm, timber-heavy rooms; white and black sit better in minimalist and monochrome spaces.
Sizes run from 8 x 12 inches up to large statement pieces, plus A4, A3, A2 and A1 for standard European frames. The exact sizes available for this design are listed in the Size menu above.
