This Charles River Boston watercolor print shows the Back Bay skyline in Boston across the river from the Cambridge bank, with sailboats out on a summer day. It is a watercolor-style interpretation of the view, not an exact one.
About the artwork
Fine ink lines draw the bridge arches, its towers and the brown-brick row houses, while 200 Clarendon is a clear blue wash with streaks of reflection. The river is laid in horizontal blue strokes with white paper for sparkle. The Back Bay skyline, with 200 Clarendon and the gray Prudential Tower, rises above brick and brownstone homes in the middle distance. A multi-arched stone bridge crosses the river, and the gold dome of the Massachusetts State House sits far to the left. A grassy bank with trees and a riverside path along Memorial Drive fills the foreground, and the edges fade into green, yellow and violet washes. "BOSTON" is set in spaced navy capitals across the top.
Why you'll love it
- Rowing and sailing. Two rowing shells and white sailboats share the river.
- Riverside path. Joggers, cyclists and black iron lampposts line the Cambridge bank.
- Breezy summer colors. River blue and leafy green are set against brick brown and a gold dome.
- Made to order. Printed after you buy, colour-managed, never warehoused.
Sizes and materials
- Paper — archival matte, rolled and unframed. Thirteen sizes in all: 8" x 12" through 30" x 40", plus A4–A1.
- Matte canvas — stretched on a wooden bar, no glare, ready to hang. 12" x 16" to 30" x 40".
- Framed canvas — solid wood floating frame in white, black, espresso or natural. 12" x 16" to 30" x 40".
- Pigment-based archival inks, rated to resist fading for decades indoors.
Styling it at home
Its open blues and greens suit a living room, a home office or a coastal-style bedroom. It makes a great gift for a rower, a graduate leaving Cambridge or anyone who loves the river. Pair it with our Boston watercolor print for a two-piece set.
Shipping and care
Unframed prints ship rolled in a protective tube. Framed canvas arrives ready to hang. Keep prints out of direct sunlight to protect the colour, and dust canvas with a dry, soft cloth.
Questions people ask
Is this an exact view of Charles River Boston? No. It is an artistic interpretation of the Charles River and Back Bay, and some elements, like the bridge, are simplified or reimagined.
What text is printed on it? Only the city name, "BOSTON," set in spaced navy capitals across the top. There is no other lettering on the print.
Print & materials
Every design is made to order on one of three materials:
- Fine art paper — thick 200 gsm archival gallery-grade paper with a smooth matte finish, printed with fade-resistant pigment inks. The choice if you already own a frame.
- Matte canvas — gallery-wrapped over a solid wood stretcher, ready to hang straight out of the box. No glass, no glare.
- Framed canvas in white, black, espresso or natural wood — a slim solid-wood floating frame with the hanging hardware already fitted. Natural and espresso suit warm, timber-heavy rooms; white and black sit better in minimalist and monochrome spaces.
Sizes run from 8 x 12 inches up to large statement pieces, plus A4, A3, A2 and A1 for standard European frames. The exact sizes available for this design are listed in the Size menu above.

Materials
Three ways to print it.
Same artwork, same colour-managed printing — the material decides how it hangs and how much wall it holds.
Fine art paper
Thick 200 gsm archival gallery-grade paper with a smooth matte finish, printed with fade-resistant pigment inks.
- The most affordable option, and the one to pick if you already own a frame.
- Reads slightly softer than canvas.
- Ships rolled in a rigid tube.
Matte canvas
Gallery-wrapped over a solid wood stretcher, ready to hang straight out of the box.
- No glass, so no glare — good for bright rooms.
- Holds a touch more contrast than paper.
- Boxed with corner guards.
Framed canvas
A slim solid-wood floating frame with the hanging hardware already fitted, in white, black, espresso or natural wood.
- Natural and espresso suit warm, timber-heavy rooms.
- White and black sit better in minimalist and monochrome spaces.
- The usual choice for a feature wall — nothing to assemble.
