This Avignon watercolor print shows the Palais des Papes and the stone arches of the Pont Saint-Bénézet, seen across the Rhône river from a grassy bank. It is an artistic, watercolor-style interpretation of Avignon, not an exact view of the city.
About the artwork
The limestone walls of the palace are left almost as bare paper, with only fine brown ink lines and pale violet shadows. The Rhône is a clear blue wash with horizontal streaks of light, and the left edge and bottom break into olive and violet splatter with a long drip in the lower left. River and mountain blues, limestone cream and leafy green make up the palette, with lavender along the bottom and a golden statue on the bell tower as accents. The palace with its square crenellated towers sits right of center, the bell tower of Notre-Dame des Doms stands to its left, and the bridge with its small chapel crosses the middle ground on the left. Behind, the white summit of Mont Ventoux and blue-violet hills fill the horizon on a bright midsummer day. "AVIGNON" is set in spaced navy capitals across the top.
Why you'll love it
- Riverbank picnic. People picnic on the grass under a large shade tree in the foreground.
- Boats on the Rhône. A white tour boat and a four-person rowing crew share the river.
- Golden statue detail. A small gold statue crowns the bell tower of Notre-Dame des Doms.
- Made to order. Printed after you buy, colour-managed, never warehoused.
Sizes and materials
- Paper — archival matte, rolled and unframed. Thirteen sizes in all: 8" x 12" through 30" x 40", plus A4–A1.
- Matte canvas — stretched on a wooden bar, no glare, ready to hang. 12" x 16" to 30" x 40".
- Framed canvas — solid wood floating frame in white, black, espresso or natural. 12" x 16" to 30" x 40".
- Pigment-based archival inks, rated to resist fading for decades indoors.
Styling it at home
The cream, lavender and soft blues fit a Provençal-style kitchen, a dining room or a calm bedroom with linen and pale wood. Give it to a friend back from a summer in Provence or to anyone who loves French history.
Shipping and care
Unframed prints ship rolled in a protective tube. Framed canvas arrives ready to hang. Keep prints out of direct sunlight to protect the colour, and dust canvas with a dry, soft cloth.
Questions people ask
Is this an exact view of Avignon? No. It is an artistic interpretation of the Avignon skyline, composed from the riverbank to bring the palace, bridge and cathedral into one frame.
What text is printed on it? Only the city name, "AVIGNON," set in spaced navy capitals across the top. There is no other lettering on the print.
Print & materials
Every design is made to order on one of three materials:
- Fine art paper — thick 200 gsm archival gallery-grade paper with a smooth matte finish, printed with fade-resistant pigment inks. The choice if you already own a frame.
- Matte canvas — gallery-wrapped over a solid wood stretcher, ready to hang straight out of the box. No glass, no glare.
- Framed canvas in white, black, espresso or natural wood — a slim solid-wood floating frame with the hanging hardware already fitted. Natural and espresso suit warm, timber-heavy rooms; white and black sit better in minimalist and monochrome spaces.
Sizes run from 8 x 12 inches up to large statement pieces, plus A4, A3, A2 and A1 for standard European frames. The exact sizes available for this design are listed in the Size menu above.

Materials
Three ways to print it.
Same artwork, same colour-managed printing — the material decides how it hangs and how much wall it holds.
Fine art paper
Thick 200 gsm archival gallery-grade paper with a smooth matte finish, printed with fade-resistant pigment inks.
- The most affordable option, and the one to pick if you already own a frame.
- Reads slightly softer than canvas.
- Ships rolled in a rigid tube.
Matte canvas
Gallery-wrapped over a solid wood stretcher, ready to hang straight out of the box.
- No glass, so no glare — good for bright rooms.
- Holds a touch more contrast than paper.
- Boxed with corner guards.
Framed canvas
A slim solid-wood floating frame with the hanging hardware already fitted, in white, black, espresso or natural wood.
- Natural and espresso suit warm, timber-heavy rooms.
- White and black sit better in minimalist and monochrome spaces.
- The usual choice for a feature wall — nothing to assemble.
