An Ann Arbor, Michigan poster taken from the sidewalk on a summer afternoon. The Michigan Theater fills the right side — tall red vertical blade sign, ornate marquee with its lamp band, and a brick facade running back down the block. On the left, a row of big street trees throws hard leaf shadows across a wide pavement, with people walking in the distance.
About the artwork
Vector illustration built from layered flat shapes with strong cut-out shadows and no line work. The colours split cleanly: a saturated mid-blue sky, warm brick red and rust on the theatre and the storefronts, gold on the sign lettering, and a wide range of greens — dark teal-green in the deep canopy, yellow-green where sun passes through the leaves. The pavement is drawn as cream flagstones covered in dark dappled shade. Type is white: ANN ARBOR with MICHIGAN spaced beneath. Portrait, 2:3.
Why you'll love it
- Downtown, not campus — the theatre marquee and the tree canopy are what people actually picture.
- The best shadow work in the set — dappled light on the pavement is drawn shape by shape.
- Red and green that works — the blade sign reads as a single hot accent against a wall of foliage.
- A graduation or leaving gift — recognisable to anyone who spent four years walking that block.
Sizes and materials
- Paper — archival matte, rolled and unframed. Nine sizes from 8" x 12" to 30" x 40", plus A4-A1 for European frames.
- Matte canvas — stretched on a wooden bar, no glare, ready to hang.
- Framed canvas — stretched canvas in a solid wood floating frame, in white, black, espresso or natural.
- Pigment-based archival inks, rated to resist fading for decades indoors.
Styling it at home
Green dominates, so this hangs naturally in the sage green room shown in the photographs above, where the canopy and the paint agree and the red sign does all the work. On white it becomes brighter and more graphic. Warm oak or walnut frames suit the brick tones; keep nearby accessories in brass and green glass rather than cool chrome.
Shipping and care
Unframed prints ship rolled in a protective tube. Framed canvas arrives ready to hang. Keep prints out of direct sunlight to protect the colour, and dust canvas with a dry, soft cloth.
Questions people ask
What size should I get? There is a lot of leaf detail, so avoid the smallest sizes. 18" x 24" for a study, 24" x 36" or larger over a sofa or bed.
Does it come framed? Paper and matte canvas ship unframed. The framed canvas option arrives in a solid wood floating frame, wired and ready to hang.
What does the poster say? ANN ARBOR at the top with MICHIGAN spaced beneath. The tall red sign on the building also reads MICHIGAN, which is the name of the theatre in the picture, not a second caption.
Print & materials
Every design is made to order on one of three materials:
- Fine art paper — thick 200 gsm archival gallery-grade paper with a smooth matte finish, printed with fade-resistant pigment inks. The choice if you already own a frame.
- Matte canvas — gallery-wrapped over a solid wood stretcher, ready to hang straight out of the box. No glass, no glare.
- Framed canvas in white, black, espresso or natural wood — a slim solid-wood floating frame with the hanging hardware already fitted. Natural and espresso suit warm, timber-heavy rooms; white and black sit better in minimalist and monochrome spaces.
Sizes run from 8 x 12 inches up to large statement pieces, plus A4, A3, A2 and A1 for standard European frames. The exact sizes available for this design are listed in the Size menu above.
Paper weight, inks, frame details and care are all in our Material Guide.

Materials
Three ways to print it.
Same artwork, same colour-managed printing — the material decides how it hangs and how much wall it holds.
Fine art paper
Thick 200 gsm archival gallery-grade paper with a smooth matte finish, printed with fade-resistant pigment inks.
- The most affordable option, and the one to pick if you already own a frame.
- Reads slightly softer than canvas.
- Ships rolled in a rigid tube.
Matte canvas
Gallery-wrapped over a solid wood stretcher, ready to hang straight out of the box.
- No glass, so no glare — good for bright rooms.
- Holds a touch more contrast than paper.
- Boxed with corner guards.
Framed canvas
A slim solid-wood floating frame with the hanging hardware already fitted, in white, black, espresso or natural wood.
- Natural and espresso suit warm, timber-heavy rooms.
- White and black sit better in minimalist and monochrome spaces.
- The usual choice for a feature wall — nothing to assemble.
