The best gifts for new parents are the ones that stay useful after the newborn weeks: a framed nursery print does exactly that. It costs from $26, needs no size or batteries, and hangs on the wall for years. Below are 22 nursery prints from our own catalog, sorted by theme, with sizes and prices so you can order one in a few minutes.
Why a nursery print is the gift that actually gets used
New parents receive a lot of 0–3 month clothing and very little that lasts past the first growth spurt. A print is different. It goes on the wall once, it is not outgrown, and it is one of the few baby gifts that doubles as a housewarming gift for a couple who have just turned a spare room into a nursery.
There is also a safety reason to give wall art rather than another soft toy. The American Academy of Pediatrics advises keeping pillows, blankets, bumper pads and toys out of the crib, because soft objects and loose bedding raise the risk of entrapment and suffocation. A framed print lives on the wall, well outside the sleep space, and still makes the room feel finished.
What do new parents actually hang? In our experience it is two things: one picture above the crib or changing table that sets the theme, and one quieter print for the wall they look at while feeding at 3 a.m. The first can be a character, an animal or a scene; the second should be calm, with a plain ground and no text. This guide gives you both kinds, and every print below is shown in a real room so you can judge scale before you buy.
Our nursery wall art collection holds 125 prints: 18 woodland, 13 safari, 14 farm, 7 floral, 6 celestial and 3 alphabet designs, plus neutral hearts and playroom scenes. Every one is printed to order on archival matte paper or matte canvas, so the gift is made for that baby, not pulled from a shelf.
Match the print to the nursery theme
Ask one question before you buy: what colour is the nursery, and what animal keeps showing up on the bedding? The answer puts you in one of eight groups. Each row below names one print we would give, the size that fits a typical spot, and the price on paper.
| The nursery | Give this print | Best spot and size | Paper from |
|---|---|---|---|
| Woodland (sage, rust, cream) | Sleeping Fawn in a Leafy Wreath | Above the crib, 16 x 24 in. | $40 |
| Safari (beige, grey, stripes) | Mother and Baby Elephant Hug | Beside the dresser, 12 x 18 in. | $33 |
| Farm (gingham, red barn) | Goose on a Scooter with Daisy Basket | Above the changing table, 12 x 16 in. | $31 |
| Celestial (moon and stars) | Cloud Mobile With Hanging Moon and Stars | Above the crib, 18 x 24 in. | $45 |
| Floral (blush, eucalyptus) | Wildflower and Eucalyptus Bouquet | Above the rocking chair, 12 x 18 in. | $33 |
| Neutral / minimalist | Three Terracotta and Sage Hearts in a Row | Above a low dresser, 24 x 16 in. horizontal | $40 |
| Learning corner | Pastel Puffy Letter Alphabet Chart | Eye level by the bookshelf, 18 x 24 in. | $45 |
| Playroom / shared room | Animal Road Trip Van on Cream Landscape | Above a toy bench, 30 x 20 in. horizontal | $47 |
If you do not know the theme, go neutral: the hearts, the cloud mobile and the line-art flower sit happily in a sage, blush, grey or white room. If you want to give more than one print, two prints trigger an automatic 7% discount at checkout and three or more take 10% off, no code needed.
For the woodland nursery
Woodland is the most common nursery theme in our catalog, with 18 prints in the woodland nursery wall art hub. The palette is sage, russet and cream, so these prints also work in a room that is simply painted green or beige.
Our first pick for the theme is the Sleeping Fawn in a Leafy Wreath: a russet, white-spotted fawn curled asleep inside a loose wreath of sage leaves and pale yellow bellflowers, painted with fine brushstrokes and soft watercolor edges. At 16 x 24 in. it reads from the doorway; at 12 x 18 in. it fits above a changing table. On the crib wall above we swapped it for a goose with a pink-and-sage striped bow on rosebud wallpaper, which bridges the woodland and farm sets; the bunny and the bear from that wall are shown on their own below.
For a wide wall, the woodland set has two horizontal pictures. The meadow scene below is the quietest: a brown bear walking left with one paw lifted, and a small grey bunny sitting against its back leg, on plain cream with a few beige sprigs. It is the print to give when the parents have said "nothing busy".
For the safari nursery
Safari nurseries lean grey and beige with stripes or gingham, and the 13 prints in safari nursery wall art follow that: elephants, giraffes and lions drawn small, with wide empty space around them. The mother-and-calf elephant is the natural gift from a grandparent: a beige mother curling her trunk around her pale grey-sage calf, both with closed eyes and faint pink cheeks on a blush beige ground, two generations in one picture.
Two more safari prints round out the theme. The baby giraffe stands facing the viewer with sage and tan spots and a thin brown outline that gives it a storybook look; it fills a little over half the sheet, so it holds up at 18 x 24 in. The stacked tower puts a bunny, bear cub, giraffe, lion and elephant in a cream oval over grey and cream stripes, which echoes striped bedding.
If the nursery has a long wall over a dresser, give the horizontal train instead: a lion drives the engine under a sage roof, a grey elephant and a giraffe ride the first carriage and a tiger cub looks out of the last, all rolling left across a peach-beige sheet. At 24 x 16 in. it is $40 on paper.
For the farm nursery
Farm nurseries use gingham, red barns and geese, and the 14 prints in farm nursery wall art are the most playful set we make. They suit parents who grew up around animals or who have decorated with checks and lace.
The goose is the gift for a parent with a sense of humour: one wing on the handlebar, orange bill pointed ahead, a fringed check scarf. The barn is its calm partner. The two hang well side by side at 12 x 16 in. each, about a hand-width apart, which is the layout we describe in our guide to hanging a small gallery wall.
Farm also has the two best horizontal prints for a baby shower. The sleeping piglet is a soft pink watercolor lying behind four honey-coloured blocks that spell BABY, and the five runner ducks stand in a row in beige, sage, grey-brown, cream and dusty rose, each in a striped party hat. Both read as a greeting card you can keep.
Calm and neutral: clouds, flowers and hearts
When you do not know the theme, or the parents have chosen a plain sage or beige room, give one of the quiet prints. They come from three small groups in the collection: celestial, floral and the minimalist hearts. None has text, and each sits small on its sheet with wide margins, so it does not fight with a mobile or a patterned blanket.
The cloud mobile is the safe pick for a baby whose room is still being painted, because its warm beige ground goes with everything. The heart-rain cloud is the one to choose for a darker, mocha or taupe room; the latte background makes the cream cloud stand out. The bouquet suits a blush nursery; its blooms are cream, sand and taupe with sage leaves, so nothing about it is actually pink.
Scale matters more with these quiet prints than with the animals. Because each motif sits small on a wide margin, a 12 x 16 in. print above a changing table can look lost; go one size up to 16 x 24 in. for the crib wall, or hang two 12 x 18 in. prints as a pair. The cream grounds are close in tone across the three hubs, so a cloud and a bouquet side by side read as one set even though they come from different collections.
For a horizontal spot over a low dresser, the three hearts in a row do the work with three shapes and a lot of cream space: peach on the left, deep terracotta in the middle, muted sage on the right, each with a hint of brush texture at the rim.
Gifts that grow with the child
The AAP recommends that babies share a room with their parents for at least the first six months, so many nurseries are used as a changing and feeding room before they are a bedroom. That makes a print that still makes sense at age four a better gift than a newborn-only motif. Alphabet charts, counting charts and playroom scenes are the ones that stay up longest.
The alphabet chart has no pictures and no words, just letters, so it moves from a crib wall to a reading corner without looking babyish. Pair it with the giraffe counting chart, where a cream giraffe with sage and brown spots stands over the digits 1 to 9, each with its own tiny pattern of dots, stripes or triangles.
For a shared room or a playroom, the horizontal camper van is the storytelling print: a bear at the wheel, a hedgehog, a mouse, a puppy leaning out and a white goose at the back, two brown suitcases on the roof, all in cream and sage with lots of ivory space. The Moses basket, with a robin on its rim and two toadstools at its side, is the one we would give for a newborn who will move to a toddler bed in a year; the basket is the keepsake, the robin is the detail children notice later.
Sizes, paper or canvas, and ordering in time
Vertical nursery prints come in 13 sizes and horizontal prints in 11, in three materials. For a gift, the sizes below are the ones that fit the usual nursery spots. Paper is archival matte with pigment inks and arrives ready to frame; matte canvas comes stretched and ready to hang, which saves the parents a trip to the frame shop.
| Where it hangs | Vertical size | Horizontal size | Paper | Matte canvas |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Beside a dresser or shelf | 8 x 12 in. | 12 x 8 in. | $26 | — |
| Above a changing table | 12 x 16 in. or 12 x 18 in. | 18 x 12 in. | $31–$33 | $64–$66 |
| Above the crib (single) | 16 x 24 in. or 18 x 24 in. | 24 x 16 in. | $40–$45 | $100–$105 |
| Above a wide dresser or toy bench | 24 x 36 in. | 30 x 20 in. or 36 x 24 in. | $47–$55 | $133–$170 |
Three practical notes for gift-givers. First, every print is made to order and ships in 3–5 business days; shipping is free within the US and a flat $5 elsewhere, so for a shower date or Christmas, order a week or two ahead. Second, if you give two prints the cart takes 7% off automatically, and three or more take 10% off. Third, if you are unsure how high or how large, our size guide covers hanging height above a crib and dresser; a 2:3 print like 12 x 18 in. also fits standard off-the-shelf frames, which matters when the parents already own one.
A gift note goes a long way here. Write the baby's name and the date, and the print becomes a record of the week they arrived, which is more than most themed gift sets can say.

FAQ
What is a good gift for new parents who already have everything?
A framed nursery print. It is one of the few baby gifts that is not outgrown in three months, it costs from $26 on paper, and it works as a housewarming gift when a spare room has just become a nursery. Choose a neutral design such as the cloud mobile or the three hearts if you do not know the theme.
Which nursery print size should I give?
For above a changing table, 12 x 16 in. or 12 x 18 in. ($31–$33 on paper). For above the crib, 16 x 24 in. or 18 x 24 in. ($40–$45). For a wide wall above a dresser, a horizontal 24 x 16 in. or 30 x 20 in. print ($40–$47). The size guide lists hanging heights.
Is it safe to hang a print above a crib?
The AAP safe-sleep guidance is about keeping soft objects, loose bedding and toys out of the crib itself. A framed print on the wall is outside the sleep space; hang it securely on a proper wall hook, or choose matte canvas, which is light and comes ready to hang.
Paper or canvas for a nursery gift?
Paper if the parents like to choose their own frame or already own one in a 2:3 or 3:4 size; it is the lower-cost option from $26. Matte canvas (from $64) arrives stretched and ready to hang, which is the easier gift when you want nothing left for them to do.
How long does a made-to-order print take to arrive?
Printing takes 3–5 business days, then shipping. US shipping is free; outside the US it is a flat $5. Order one to two weeks before a baby shower or holiday to be safe.
