A bakery wall art print that looks like the cover of a French recipe book: a watercolour croissant across a sketched red check, script written above it.
About the artwork
The pastry is painted wet-on-wet, so the layers are built from overlapping washes rather than drawn as separate lines, and patches of bare paper are left to read as the shine on the crust. A thin charcoal line traces the outer edge only. The check behind it is not filled in — each red square is scribbled with loose diagonal hatching that lets the paper show through, which keeps it from competing with the pastry. The check starts a third of the way down and runs to the bottom edge; the tail of the croissant pushes out past its left side.
Why you'll love it
- Wet watercolour. Layers built from washes, with bare paper left for the shine.
- An open check. Red squares hatched loosely, not painted solid.
- It breaks the grid. The tail of the pastry hangs out past the left edge of the check.
- Made to order. Printed after you buy, colour-managed, never warehoused.
Sizes and materials
- Paper — archival matte, rolled and unframed. Thirteen sizes in all: 8" x 12" through 30" x 40", plus A4–A1.
- Matte canvas — stretched on a wooden bar, no glare, ready to hang. 12" x 16" to 30" x 40".
- Framed canvas — solid wood floating frame in white, black, espresso or natural. 12" x 16" to 30" x 40".
- Pigment-based archival inks, rated to resist fading for decades indoors.
Styling it at home
Red check and warm pastry is straightforwardly appetising, so it earns its place near food — a breakfast wall, a coffee corner, a dining room. It reads as a pair with the green-check pizza print from the same hand. Natural oak suits the warmth; white frames make the red crisper.
Shipping and care
Unframed prints ship rolled in a protective tube. Framed canvas arrives ready to hang. Keep prints out of direct sunlight to protect the colour, and dust canvas with a dry, soft cloth.
Questions people ask
What does it say? “Un Croissant” and “S'il vous plaît!”, in script across the top.
Is the check solid? No — each square is filled with loose diagonal strokes so the paper shows through.
Print & materials
Every design is made to order on one of three materials:
- Fine art paper — thick archival gallery-grade paper with a smooth matte finish, printed with fade-resistant pigment inks. The choice if you already own a frame.
- Matte canvas — gallery-wrapped over a solid wood stretcher, ready to hang straight out of the box. No glass, no glare.
- Framed canvas in white, black, espresso or natural wood — a slim solid-wood floating frame with the hanging hardware already fitted. Natural and espresso suit warm, timber-heavy rooms; white and black sit better in minimalist and monochrome spaces.
Sizes run from 8 x 12 inches up to large statement pieces, plus A4, A3, A2 and A1 for standard European frames. The exact sizes available for this design are listed in the Size menu above.

Materials
Three ways to print it.
Same artwork, same colour-managed printing — the material decides how it hangs and how much wall it holds.
Fine art paper
Thick archival gallery-grade paper with a smooth matte finish, printed with fade-resistant pigment inks.
- The most affordable option, and the one to pick if you already own a frame.
- Reads slightly softer than canvas.
- Ships rolled in a rigid tube.
Matte canvas
Gallery-wrapped over a solid wood stretcher, ready to hang straight out of the box.
- No glass, so no glare — good for bright rooms.
- Holds a touch more contrast than paper.
- Boxed with corner guards.
Framed canvas
A slim solid-wood floating frame with the hanging hardware already fitted, in white, black, espresso or natural wood.
- Natural and espresso suit warm, timber-heavy rooms.
- White and black sit better in minimalist and monochrome spaces.
- The usual choice for a feature wall — nothing to assemble.
