What's in the collection

Each print is a single word written in large black kanji on warm cream paper, with its reading in Latin letters and its English meaning below. Heiwa means peace, kibo hope, nintai patience and jiai mercy, or loving kindness. Seijaku, silence or stillness, is set instead inside a large red hanko, the carved seal used in Japan to sign documents and artworks. Most of the others carry a small red seal in the corner, the finishing mark a calligrapher adds to a sheet.

One house style

The layout never changes: the characters stacked in the upper half, the reading beneath, a wide cream margin around everything. That makes the prints easy to hang as a row, each word a different intention, above a desk or a bed. They sit naturally among the muted prints of Japandi wall art and work well as office wall art, where a single word carries more than a busy picture. The wider range is in our Japanese wall art.

Sizes, paper and framing

Every design is offered on archival matte paper in nine sizes from 8" x 12" to 30" x 40", plus A4-A1 for European frames, and on matte canvas either stretched on a wooden bar or set in a solid wood floating frame in white, black, espresso or natural. Printed with pigment-based archival inks, rated to resist fading for decades indoors.
